Thank you to Tiara Watson, M.S. , Kymbriona Taylor, M. Ed , Maggie O'Brien , and Amanda Paz Herrera for presenting the Photovoice research project on what Inclusion, Equity, & Diversity means to MU Graduate Students. I will be reflecting on two items: 1) is the goal of IDE efforts representation or inclusion? As one of the participants asked. 2) How can we continue to foster powerful conversations like the ones this project fostered in an organic, authentic, and student-led to bring healing and inclusion to more MU Graduate Students?

At Varce Girls' Learning Hub, our primary objective is to empower girls by equipping them with digital skills. However, we go beyond mere technical education. Our curriculum integrates subjects like civic education, fostering critical discussions on justice, the rule of law, and societal resilience. We are proud to have used a portion of Civics Academy online material into our curriculum. We don't just teach digital literacy; we cultivate civic literacy, critical thinking, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. This holistic approach is fundamental in shaping responsible citizens who can confront challenges and drive positive change in their communities. we empower the next generation to think critically, engage meaningfully, and contribute positively to society. We measure success not just in academic achievements but also in the increased civic engagement, leadership skills, and community impact demonstrated by our students. This Teacher Appreciation Week, we honor the profound impact of, and urgent need for more, teachers of color and Indigenous educators. They are crucial role models in our classrooms, but they remain vastly underrepresented and often leave the profession early due to systemic barriers and inadequate support. Over 40% of U.S. schools lack any teachers of color, highlighting a critical gap in representation that affects current students, who are also our next generation of educators. Students of color voice a strong desire to teach, driven by the chance to make meaningful connections and inspire future students. Yet, deterrents like low pay and a lack of cultural representation in curricula discourage many. At EdLoC, we are committed to elevating the voices of teachers of color and Indigenous educators and reshaping an education system that truly values and supports them. As we celebrate their contributions this week, let's also commit to the systemic change needed to welcome more educators of color into their ranks. It’s essential to have multiple perspectives on teams and neurodiverse individuals provide that. Leaders need to understand how to leverage neurodiverse strengths for this to be possible.
