How should athletes be represented in sports governance? At SportAccord 2024, #FIFPRO's Alexandra Gómez Bruinewoud joined Andreas Zagklis (FIBA), Emilio Garcia Silvero (FIFA), Áine Power (Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI)), and Florian Yelin (World Players Association) to debate the topic. The group explored two primary models for athlete representation: internal and external. Internal representation involves athletes as formal members of the governing body, with voting rights within the decision-making body. External representation refers to models where players are represented by a body that is external and independent, but negotiates with the governing body. Alexandra underscored the importance of independent athlete representation through player unions, highlighting the power of negotiation over mere consultation. Ultimately, though, the consensus was clear: athletes should have the freedom to choose the representation model that aligns best with their needs. #WhereSportMeets #SportAccord

Great to meet the awesome ActiveXchange APAC team and (re)connect with new & past industry leaders in person at the National Sports & Physical Activity Convention. it was a great opportunity to chat about common challenges & opportunities, and the scope for sports & leisure data-intelligence to be deployed to improve outcomes across the industry. 'Working together' was one of the common themes & key learnings from the conference, echoed in case studies from Australia and abroad. A number of use-cases helped to highlight the positive results or immediate need for organisations to consider new approaches and or collaborations for long term benefit. The better organisations can 'join the dots', (and the data!) in a cohesive way, especially in the changing landscape with economic headwinds, the better the industry can meet consumer expectations and the better the results.  

Billiards is indeed recognized as a sport by various authorities and has a rich history that dates back several centuries. It encompasses a variety of games, commonly known as cue sports, which are played on a felt-covered table using cues to strike billiard balls. The skill involved in mastering the precision and strategy of billiards has led to its recognition as a competitive sport. Organizations like the World Confederation of Billiards Sports govern international competitions, including carom billiards, pool, and snooker, each with its own distinct rules and playing style. The sport requires not only physical dexterity and fine motor skills but also a high degree of mental acumen, planning, and tactical foresight.
