I am halfway through my Internship and it's flying by! Every second with CM&F Group has been amazing! And even that is an understatement. They have taught me so much about myself and the insurance world! I could go on and on about everything I learned from the basics of insurance to medical spa coverages. But I think that is just the bigger picture. I want to focus on what has made this internship so special; Edna, Hunter, William, and Jack. Here are the three big lessons I learned from them... 1. Work at a place where you feel appreciated in your role. 2. Whatever you choose to do in life, don't do it halfway. Dive in and do the best you can do! 3. The importance of treating everyone the way you want to be treated. This goes for both the clients needing help and your fellow coworkers. 🚀I’m excited to announce that I’ve successfully completed my underwriting internship at Victor Insurance! 🎉 This internship provided me with invaluable hands-on experience and deepened my understanding of the underwriting process. During my time at Victor Insurance, I had the opportunity to: 🔹 Collect and organize critical documentation from clients, such as financial statements, credit reports, and prior insurance records. 🔹 Perform detailed evaluations of potential clients’ financial backgrounds and creditworthiness. 🔹 Analyze data to assist in making informed underwriting decisions and to refine risk management approaches. 🔹 Engage in training sessions and workshops that enhanced my knowledge of underwriting principles and best practices. 🔹 Work closely with seasoned underwriters, gaining practical experience and insights into their decision-making processes. 🔹 Use specialized underwriting software to input data, run risk assessments, and generate comprehensive reports. Meet Dylan Wheeler, one of RCM&D's summer interns! Dylan has worked alongside our Surety team this summer. After his internship, Dylan will go back to the University of South Carolina to start his junior year and continue working towards his major in Finance. 👍 What has been the most interesting or rewarding part of your internship experience so far? The most interesting part of the internship is learning the ins and outs of surety. Coming into this internship, I had never heard about surety, so it has been a great experience learning about it. The most rewarding part has to be the connections and relationships I have made with the employees and other interns. I am able to learn from my colleague's expertise as well as create friendships with my fellow interns as we work towards the same goal of success. 👨🎓 What has this internship experience helped you learn about yourself and your career goals? This internship has helped broaden my career interests, as I had not really considered a career in insurance previously. It has helped me realize how much I enjoy working with other people and clients and that I want a career where I am able to interact and work with many people every day. Overall, this experience has confirmed that I am going down the right career path and has motivated me to pursue my goals. 🗣️ What advice would you give to future interns at RCM&D to help them get the most out of their experience? My advice is to introduce yourself and connect with everyone that you meet during your time with RCM&D. Everybody has a different story to tell and guidance to give that can help you in your future. I would also say to not be afraid to ask questions if you are having trouble with a task or want to sit down to learn something new. Everyone wants to help you succeed and will take time out of their days to guide or teach you. 🏌️ What's your ultimate way to unwind and recharge after a busy week at RCM&D? After a busy week of work, I like to play a round of golf with my friends. It helps me relax and get my mind off of work for a while.

Today I completed The Council Acadamy's Introduction to Insurance Course. This is a 6-week course offered by The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers that was provided to me through my internship program at TrueNorth Companies, L.C. The Introduction to Insurance Course covers a high-level overview of many insurance topics. Some of my favorites to learn about have been roles within a brokerage, captives and emerging trends in the industry. I am eager to apply what I have learned to my work and personal life. These are topics that pave way to a diverse variety of career paths and areas within the finance and insurance field.
