I am halfway through my Internship and it's flying by! Every second with CM&F Group has been amazing! And even that is an understatement. They have taught me so much about myself and the insurance world! I could go on and on about everything I learned from the basics of insurance to medical spa coverages. But I think that is just the bigger picture. I want to focus on what has made this internship so special; Edna, Hunter, William, and Jack. Here are the three big lessons I learned from them... 1. Work at a place where you feel appreciated in your role. 2. Whatever you choose to do in life, don't do it halfway. Dive in and do the best you can do! 3. The importance of treating everyone the way you want to be treated. This goes for both the clients needing help and your fellow coworkers. Exciting First Day as an Intern at National Interstate Insurance Company! 🚀 Today marked the beginning of an incredible ten week journey as I start my underwriting internship. Highlights of the Day: Networking: Met my fellow interns, who are an enthusiastic and talented group. Looking forward to collaborating and learning from each other. Employee Interactions: Had the privilege of meeting some of the companies leading employees and executives, who shared their experience and wisdom. Supervisor Introduction: Got to meet my supervisor and see where I will be working day to day. Excited to get started and make meaningful contributions to my department. Education: Interns were taught valuable insurance terminology that employees must use on a day-to-day basis. I am fortunate to be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking organization. There are many lessons, growth opportunities, and challenges that lie ahead!

As our summer interns return to school, we asked Michael Bonanni, Business Development intern at Accident Fund Insurance Company of America, to answer 5Qs about his experience at AF Group. Read his full answers below. #internships #insurancecareers #afgroup    Q1: Why did you choose to be an intern at AF Group?  A: A family friend who works in insurance recommended the company to me. I had no prior insurance knowledge/experience, but as soon as I started looking into AF Group, I became interested due to their clear commitment to valuing people. The professionals I interacted with during the recruitment process allowed me to experience that value firsthand, enabling me to accept my position without a second thought.    Q2: What do you like about being an intern at AF Group?  A: AF Group is an awesome environment for learning. Being that I have no insurance in my background, this summer has been full of new information. This was very intimidating at first, but I have never been surrounded by a group of professionals who provide insight so freely and encourage us to ask questions at any time. Also, the company is highly involved in the community. The interns have had great opportunities to participate in some of these efforts and make an impact on the Greater Lansing area.    Q3: Any advice for future interns?  A: Introduce yourself around the office whenever you get the chance. You never know how important the connections you make now could be down the road. Also, the more you become a known presence around the office, the more people you’ll have to vouch for you if you’re ever interested in a full-time position – make sure you send out those LinkedIn connections!!    Q4: What is a useful skill you have developed during this internship?  A: I have gained a lot of ability in navigating software/different online systems. This experience has been very valuable in helping me become more comfortable and confident in that area.    Q5: What is something that has surprised you about working at AF Group?  A: I never knew how much actually goes on within insurance! Prior to this job, I grouped all of insurance into one category in my mind. That is so far from the truth – there are endless possibilities for people of all different strengths and interests within the industry.    Bonus Q: What is something that you enjoy being involved in outside of work?  A: Outside of work, I like to pack my schedule as full as possible with social events. One thing I’m really excited for is leading the student section at Hope College this upcoming year, but anything involving family, friends, sports, music or food is fair game!

It boggles my mind how many healthcare professionals can bill insurance during internships, but mental health interns can’t. If we are working under a supervisor’s license, they should be able to bill that time since they accept the risk of supervising us. We need more counselors, but insurance makes it harder to find internships. #insurance #counseling #mentalhealth
