A ‘Day in the Life’ (DITL) with Zev D. Young, MS! 🤩 This summer we are incorporating a DITL series for the Novartis Customer Engagement Summer Sales Interns to gain exposure to various roles within the organization to spark their interest! There is always the day old question of: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” … Then: “How do I get there?” “What do you actually do on a daily basis?” “What are your passion projects?” “What educational background would be ideal to have for this role?” “How did you know this was what you wanted to do?” “What skills are required on a daily basis?” “How do you balance your professional, creative, and personal life?” All these ANSWERED and more! Huge S/O to Zev for prioritizing this session and sharing valuable insights! 👏 #Novartisislife #Novartis #youngprofessionals #sales #Pharmaceuticals Adrian Hawkins #mentorship

Congratulations to all the #pharmacy students that have graduated over the following few days! 🥳🥳🥳 So, what now?......🤔🤔🤔 .... ... ... What an amazing milestone and achievement for all of you future pharmacy leaders and innovators, moving on from university to pharmacy internship! I remember when I was a wee graduate, leaving the harrowed halls of the uni, with a twinkle in my eye 😆. I had NO idea where I was going to take my career, I didn't even have the confidence to say that I wanted to pursue pharmacy itself.... I know sad right??? 😕😕😕 But I 100% understand the perspective I had is extremely common amongst a vast majority of pharmacy students, as they transition over to the "real world" of being a pharmacist. It can be scary, a sense of uncertainty will creep up on you, but it does not have to be that way! 😱😱😱 Throughout your internship, you preceptors are a core fundamental asset that ideally guide you and be your helping hand, keeping you on the right path to success! However, in action, it seams that this isn't really the case... let's be honest... People are busy, and life is even busier! That is why, I refuse to let any Australia pharmacy intern to be left behind, missing out and not having a fair go at being the best pharmacist they can be! So I have formed a community through "PharmacyDownUnder" to be a sanctuary (of sorts!) for: 1) Pharmacy Students 📚 2) Pharmacy Interns 🥼 3) Registered Pharmacists 💊 It is in essence a melding pot of ideas and perspectives, with collaboration and growth, both clincally and professionally, being the heart of it all! As I glanced through my phone, a particular picture caught my attention, transporting me back to my undergraduate days. During my industrial training at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) in Ondo State, I had the privilege of completing a six-month internship. The memory of receiving my acceptance letter still brings tears of joy to my eyes, a moment I will forever cherish. I am deeply grateful to the then Heads of Department of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), Chemistry, and Laboratory Technologist for this invaluable opportunity. My time at UNIMED was profoundly enriching. I worked alongside B.Sc. students on various projects, diving into the fascinating world of research. Our practical sessions were rigorous, filled with readings and meticulous observations. One notable experience was collaborating with a chemistry student on extraction techniques using a rotary evaporator and Soxhlet apparatus. Achieving our goals required persistence and patience, but it was immensely rewarding. I gained hands-on experience with several pieces of equipment, including the UV spectrophotometer, rotary evaporator, fume cupboard, and more. As my internship neared its end, with just two months remaining, I felt a surge of confidence and accomplishment. I was elated at my newfound ability to operate numerous instruments and conduct comprehensive research. Lessons Learned: 1) Openness to Learning: Acknowledging my weaknesses allowed me to seek guidance from staff and students more knowledgeable than myself. This humility and willingness to learn were crucial for my growth. 2) Networking, Opportunities, and Human Capital: I made significant connections with high-profile individuals, explored various opportunities, and pushed myself beyond my perceived limits. 3) Value System: Through this experience, I became more valuable in my field, enhancing both my skills and my professional worth.

Today marks the 20th day of my internship at a community pharmacy. During this time, I've gained valuable knowledge about some of the most commonly prescribed and best-selling drugs, including their adverse reactions, mechanisms, and proper usage. Although university guidelines state that a 20-day internship is sufficient, I have decided to extend my internship to continue learning and gaining practical experience. I am committed to expanding my knowledge and skills to provide the best care possible to patients. #PharmacyInternship #PharmaceuticalKnowledge #PatientCare #LifelongLearning

Building Bridges, Crafting Futures: Harmony of Pharma Companies & Pharmacy Education 🎓💊🧬 The pathway that spans from academic learning to industry application in the pharmaceutical world should not simply end with a ceremonial handshake at graduation, or be punctuated by a brief, one-month internship. Instead, it should be an enriching journey crafted through strategic collaboration between industry giants and academia. Imagine a syllabus infused with real-world knowledge directly from the experts who are at the forefront of groundbreaking work. Pharmaceutical companies have the capacity to not only host internships but to deliver lectures, provide case studies, and share current R&D strides, thereby deeply enhancing the learning experience. 💡 Yet, engagement is a two-way street. Students must cultivate a sense of curiosity. They should actively seek mentorship from industry professionals, aspiring to understand the day-to-day realities and innovations that define the sector. This curiosity, when met with opportunities to interact with industry experts, can ignite passion and clarify career aspirations early on. 🔍 Feedback from such engagement could be pivotal; pharma companies could identify emerging talents, tailor their guidance, and potentially scout future leaders while educators can refine curriculum to match the nuanced needs of an ever-evolving industry. 📈 It's also crucial for students to develop a personal development plan right from their college days and not wait until they enter industry. Such a plan ensures that from the echoing halls of a university to the bustling labs and offices of pharmaceutical companies, students are not aimlessly wandering but are journeying with precision towards their chosen career destinations. Together, academia and the pharma industry can cultivate a well-prepared workforce ready to take on the challenges of modern healthcare and improve patient outcomes worldwide. Let’s commit to these partnerships and watch as the coming generation of pharmacy professionals flourish, equipped not just with knowledge, but with experience and passion tailored for an impactful career. #PharmaceuticalIndustry #PharmacyEducation #Collaboration #CareerDevelopment #Innovation #healthcare #shapingfuture

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences | Social Mobility Award Nominee | J&J Oncology Regulatory Affairs Summer Intern
🎓 3-Month Internship Completed: An Era of Growth and Learning 🎓 I’m proud (and a bit nostalgic) to share that I officially completed my 3-month internship as an Oncology Regulatory Affairs Associate Intern at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine last Friday! It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has flown by — even handing in my laptop and returning my lanyard felt surreal. 💡 Key Skills and Insights Gained: Reflecting on my journey, one key takeaways is the importance of learning quickly. Regulatory Affairs at J&J is a strategic, long-term function where development typically takes time. With a relatively short 3 months, I had to rapidly absorb, apply, and connect new knowledge to contribute meaningfully. It wasn’t just about completing my project; it was about understanding how my work fits into the broader picture and effectively communicating those insights. As a result, the experience at Johnson & Johnson has equipped me with versatile skills that I can now apply across different functional areas. Guidance and expertise shared by the professionals I connected with have significantly broadened my capabilities and boosted my confidence. 🚀 What Made This Internship Special: From the outset, I was aware of how competitive this opportunity was — being selected from a pool with a <1% acceptance rate was an incredible honor. But more than that, securing an oncology internship at such a prestigious company has been invaluable. It’s a testament to the power of proactive networking and perseverance, qualities I believe make me stand out. 🙌 A Big Thank You: I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me along the way: - My manager, Amjad Iqbal, for his consistent guidance and mentorship from day one. - The placement cohort, who made this experience both productive and enjoyable. - All the colleagues across different functions who generously shared their J&J expertise and made me feel so welcome. This internship has been an unforgettable introduction to the corporate world, and I’m excited to carry forward the skills and experiences I’ve gained into my future endeavors. Onto the next chapter! 💫 #jnj #oncology #regulatoryaffairs #internship
