We Are speaking at the FAO World Food Forum 2024
Together with SIANI - Swedish International Agricultural Network Initiative, @slu.global , the East African Farmers Federation and the Coalition of Action 4 Soil Health we are going to be represented at the World Food Forum in Rome.
The event explores youth-led initiatives for soil health, aiming to inspire action and address the pressing need to identify and scale up solutions for regenerating soils
we are so excited to especially meet all the other projects and people from around the world and exchange our experiences.
Catch us on the 15th of October between 14:30 -18:30

🌟 Partner spotlight: We want to take a moment to highlight the work of our collaborators at the Caliata Initiative!
They support indigenous food systems projects in the Andes through media, research, and community engagement. Their work has three main themes:
1. Harnessing agroecology and permaculture principles to promote traditional ecological knowledge and biodiversity in the region.
2. Restoring and preserving pre-Columbian cultivation terraces.
3. Improving nutrition by preserving ancestral food culture.
In the face of a rapidly industrialized food system, the Caliata Initiative uses community-based partnerships to help indigenous communities in the Andes maintain agroecological wisdom for years to come.
IFA members Carlos Andrés Gallegos Riofrio and Amaya Carrasco Torrontegui co-founded the Caliata Initiative. Learn more at caliatainitiative.org!

Within the RADIANT EU project we aim to identify potential windows of opportunities which can boost the usage of underutilised crops.
Underutilised crops are neglected and forgotten plant varieties and species which are undervalued by the current agricultural and socio-economic system, but which hold great nutritional and ecological value. Underutilised crops, therefore, could have a great role to shift toward more ecologically resilient and socially just food system.
We have a collected a couple of policy case studies which serve as good practices to support produced and/or consumed diversity. Look at the summary of the Bulgarian case study produced by Svetlana BOYANOVA, Bojin Bojinov, Bálint Balázs, Zilin Liu, Orsolya Lazányi and also Alexandra Czeglédi, Kata Fodor, Agnes Neulinger, Marta Vasconcelos, Pietro Iannetta

🤝 #VoicesAboutBiovision: Biovision & FAO is uniting forces for agroecological transformation
🗨️ "We appreciate the proactive approach of Biovision and its staff in our cooperation. Their efficiently organised events, their persistent lobbying for agroecology, and their professional background reports and awareness-raising materials are particularly valuable," says Dominique Burgeon, Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva.
🌾 Biovision's partnership with FAO is a testament to our shared vision for sustainable food systems. Our collaborative efforts have been instrumental in leveraging in-depth agroecology expertise and extensive network.
The 2022 Agroecology Dialogues, co-organized by Biovision and FAO, highlight our commitment to bringing together diverse stakeholders from the agrifood system. These dialogues serve as a platform to discuss implementation strategies and showcase how agroecology can address critical food system challenges.
We celebrate this pivotal partnership that is shaping global food systems for the better.

🌽 🐄 Our #foodsystems today face major challenges.
But change is coming! We can unite and transform our food systems towards social and environmental sustainability through #Agroecology.
Agroecology- working with nature, not against it- is already providing solutions and it is
increasingly backed by scientists, social movements, farmers, and governments.
👐 They have come together in a Coalition with the mission to accelerate the
transformation of food systems through agroecology.
Since its launch in 2021, the Coalition now brings together around 300 diverse
members, both governments and organizations – and that number keeps growing.

We cannot emphasize food sovereignty for the Ogiek community without first addressing the issue of access to land. Originally, the forests were the Ogieks’ bread basket.

In our latest article for the FAO#AgroecologyKnowledgeHub Digest #Germinate! column, we make a case for Farmer Managed Seed Systems and through the sharing of grantee partner stories from Southeast Asia to Africa and the Americas, illustrate why controlling seeds is a threat to #foodsovereignty.
"Farmer managed seed systems (FMSS) are central to the everyday practices of the small-scale farmers who feed 70 percent of the world’s population. FMSS recognize the central role farmers play in selecting, growing, saving, and sharing seeds in community. Despite this, mainstream discourse continually refers to these systems as being “informal” or “anti-modern.” Additionally, over the last few decades, many governments have moved toward embracing Green Revolution “technologies”, including GMO’s, under the misguided perception that they will lead to greater production. In some instances, open seed exchange has even been criminalized. This devalues and undermines the essential climate resilient, nutritional and equitable qualities of FMSS.
Thankfully, there is an upsurge of community-led movements advocating for food sovereignty in the face of this corporate backed, restrictive approach to feeding the world. The Agroecology Fund invests in many of these grassroots movements. With their reach deep into communities, they advance food sovereignty, rights to land, territory and natural resources, climate resilience and biodiversity conservation. They are leading movements to protect seed sovereignty in their local communities by ensuring policies, laws, and practices affirm the role of small farmers and their right to FMSS."

[Hot off the press] [Don't panic, the future will be organic / agroecology]
The September issue of the FAO#AgroecologyKnowledgeHub Digest is out! It presents a selection of news, research publications, stories from the field, multimedia materials (and much more) from around the world recently uploaded to the #AKH.
In this new issue, we have curated a special selection of resources focusing on #Agroecology_in_Action, taking advantage of the release of several insightful videos and practical guides on agroecology by some of our partners on the ground, from #Africa (Uganda and Kenya) to #Asia (Cambodia, India and the Philippines) to #LatinAmerica (Colombia).
We are also very grateful to Daniel Moss from Agroecology Fund for his great contribution to our #Germinate! column (Farmer Managed Seed Systems - Why Controlling Seeds Is a Threat to Food Sovereignty).
Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to propose an opinion piece for an upcoming issue of the AKH Digest. And as always, we welcome your feedback and warmly encourage you to share the digest within your networks.
