🐝 🌱 In this video interview filmed in Cali during COP 16 Martina Fleckenstein (WWF International) and John Garcia Ulloa (Biovision Foundation), co-facilitators of the Policy Working Group of the Agroecology Coalition, share their impressions and wishes towards COP 29. 👉 John explains that agroecology has gained more visibility through COP 16 and some of the countries that submitted their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) have included agroecology. 👉 Martina reminds us that it’s important to bring agroecology at COP 29 in Baku, set to take place next week. It will be crucial to integrate agroecology in the Nanionally Determined Contributions (NDCs) which need to be updated. 🎥 NEW VIDEO CLIP "Agroecology: joining the dots between climate change, land degradation and biodiversity loss"🌱 Our current food systems are responsible for 1/3 of human induced greenhouse gas emission, impacting both planetary and human health. 🌍 Climate change is a global crisis, affecting every continent. Since the 1992 Rio Summit, three international conventions on biodiversity, climate change, and desertification have worked toward a sustainable future. The 2015 Paris Agreement emphasized that urgent, ambitious climate action is needed from governments, cities, regions, businesses, and investors alike. Everyone has a role to play! Agroecology offers a crucial path forward. By building soil organic matter and reducing synthetic fertilizer use, it cuts emissions and aligns with the goals of the Rio Conventions. With the COP 29 on climate in Baku approaching, discover more about the crucial role of agroecology in achieving the objectives of the Rio Conventions in this animated video! 🌍 🐝🌱 You can watch the video in English, French and Spanish on our YouTube channel: 🎙 EN: https://buff.ly/3O15pFj 🎙 FR: https://buff.ly/3UE6Ayx 🎙 SP: https://buff.ly/3NW6bUm

🐝 VOICES from COP16 🌱 Why does agroecology matter at COP16? Today Heidi Ortega Trujillo, Vice Minister of Agricultural Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture of Colombia gives us her insights from Cali! 👉 Heidi Ortega Trujillo reminds us that it is essential to recognize that agriculture is fundamental, given that it drives the economy of families in a country like Colombia, which is mostly rural. Therefore, the conservation of diversity in the different places of this country requires an articulation with the way food is produced in the territories and it is essential that within the framework of COP16, governments effectively reach serious commitments. 👉 She explains that agroecology is the way forward, because it doesn't only recognize the knowledge in the territories, but it looks at the territories as a system. Agroecology is the way to strengthen diversity, sovereignty, the conservation of our ecosystems, but also the diverse production of food throughout the country. 🎯 Yesterday at #COP16Colombia, Moritz Fegert (Biovision Foundation), Matheus Alves Zanella (Global Alliance for the Future of Food), Carolina Navarrete Frias (from the Alliance), and Natasja Oerlemans (WWF Netherlands) spoke about the recently launched #NBSAPs guidance — a practical, interactive tool that helps countries integrate #agroecology into their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (#NBSAPs). 👀 How does it work? The guidance offers concrete examples on boosting agrobiodiversity through agroecological practices, including: Shifting from agrochemicals to biological farming 🌿 Encouraging diverse, local seed and crop varieties 🌾 ➡ Want to learn more about it?
