Designing systems at scale to enhance community engagement I have often asked myself the question “ Is it possible to design and implement systems at scale that enhances community engagement and accountability, particularly in changing behaviours?” And the answer to myself “very challenging”. My engagement with the Government of Meghalaya has compelled me to revisit this question. Yes, it’s possible to design systems for community engagement on behaviour change at scale. The Government of Meghalaya, through its Meghalaya Rural Livelihood Mission, has introduced the concept of Community Gender Heath Activist (CGHA), a SHG member, to work alongside with ASHA, Anganwadi Worker and ANM in encouraging communities to adopt healthy behaviors. The CGHA is reaching out to women in the village in connecting the dots with other service providers. I am working with MSRLS to explore ways of further strengthening the working mechanisms of CGHA. Some of my insights as I work with the team is the agility to adapt, reconfigure critical design elements to respond better and a monitoring mechanism that measures input and output indicators related to community engagement is the way to go. It is the attitude of the leader and the team that matters! The willingness to listen and the humility to accept that there could be better solutions are essential to convert a concept into a plan. #MSRLS

I have seen firsthand the resilience and determination of people in the face of adversity. In my work, I've focused on a wide range of issues, including human rights, education, health, and "complex emergencies" in various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with several UN initiatives. One of the most challenging situations I've worked on was the IDP crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Thousands of people were displaced from their homes due to conflict, and they faced many challenges, including poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and discrimination. But in the face of these difficulties, I have seen the importance of self-reliance. Self-reliance is not about being independent from others. It is about being able to take care of oneself and to contribute to one's community. It is about being resilient and resourceful in the face of challenges. I've met many people who have lost everything, but who were determined to rebuild their lives. They were self-reliant and resourceful, and they were not afraid to ask for help when they needed it. One of these people was Fatima, a woman who lost her home and her livestock in the floods. But she was determined to rebuild her life, and she was not afraid to ask for help from her neighbors. Self-reliance is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. But it is a skill that is essential for living a happy and fulfilling life. There are many things that people can do to become more self-reliant. In addition to the floods and the IDP crisis, I have also worked on projects related to child protection, gender equality, and disaster risk reduction. I have seen how humanitarian aid can make a real difference in the lives of people who are struggling. I have also seen the challenges of providing humanitarian assistance in a complex and insecure environment. They can learn new skills, develop their resilience, and build strong relationships with their community. They can also learn to manage their resources wisely and to be prepared for unexpected events. The National Water Policy and Strategy states “Educational, health facilities and public areas are provided with safe, adequate and inclusive sanitation facilities and services". We at Addis Powerhouse, Includovate and @WISE advocate for a gender- transformative policy that ensures women's safety. Access to water and sanitation should not come at the cost of safety. We call for a policy that is gender transformative in recognizing and mitigating risks of gender-based violence by implementing measures such as developing guidelines and availing safe and inclusive WASH facilities specific to women. Let's advocate for a WASH strategy that is accessible and safe for everyone, women, girls and persons with disabilities. GIZ Uzbekistan supports the development of inclusive society in Uzbekistan On 18 April, a roundtable on "Inclusive Society: Social Model of Disability and Services for All" was held in Tashkent. The participants of the event discussed inclusion and social support for persons with disabilities, possible solutions to support them, as well as the creation of a #platform to encourage dialogue between different stakeholders. The participants of the event - representatives of government agencies, non-governmental non-profit and international organisations, experts, activists and people with disabilities - learned more about international experience in the field of social protection and discussed the implementation of specific measures and programmes to support inclusion and equal opportunities in Uzbekistan. This event was organised by the National Agency for social protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the project "Global Alliances for Social Protection" (GASP-UZ), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH on behalf of the German Government in Uzbekistan.
