That's one of the headlines from my interview with Chris Symmes, senior director of marketing for Unilever, about Hellmann's big food waste campaign at the #SuperBowl. ⬆ This is the fourth year Hellmann's has focused on a food waste message at the big game, and Symmes told us they've seen an increase in 24% in conversation around food waste over that time. ⬆ "Sustainability is something that's very important specifically to Gen Z and Millennials, and we've seen over the past four years an increase in the number of households among those generational cohorts." ⬆ Increasing awareness about how to reduce food waste & selling more mayo to younger customers = a big win. Facilitating the sustainable protein shift: Are retailers up to the challenge? 🛒 At the end of October, ProVeg International hosted our first-ever Retailer Roundtable event, gathering over 40 market leaders from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, and Poland. An important question was raised: How can retailers work together to promote a protein transition towards a more sustainable food system? Discussion points included consumer engagement, monitoring protein transitions, and achieving price parity. But, the event also allowed retailers to share best practices, and learn from one another!
