🚀 At the Next Mobility Exhibition on May 8, 2024 in Milan, we had the honour of hosting three extraordinary professionals who shared their valuable experience and vision on simplifying the public transport user experience even if governance sometimes seems to get in the way. 🏛️ ⭐ Cristina Bargero, President of the Piedmont Mobility Agency 🇮🇹 ⭐ MARIA CRISTINA CARMELI, Director of Transport and Mobility of the City of Genoa 🇮🇹 ⭐ Denise Gioli, Director of the Arcobaleno Tariff Community in Ticino 🇨🇭 The discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities for simplifying public transport. The speakers identified opportunities such as: 🛤️ Designing and managing a network, not a series of isolated lines: multimodal and complementary services with clockface scheduling and secure connections. Unifying ticketing and fare systems for all transport modes, simplifying multimodal travel, which is politically challenging and can take a long time. 😊 Improving service usability: providing a service that takes users where they want to go, when they want to go, reliably. Making PT easier to use and accessible, with technologies that simplify ticket purchasing, navigation, and access to information. 😍 Reducing complexity for users: making PT easier to use and accessible, with technologies that simplify ticket purchasing, navigation, and access to information. Hiding the complexity of the LPT management system from end users, providing an easy-to-use and understandable service. FAIRTIQ is an example of technology that helps users navigate a complex context. 📝 Achieving results through operational contracts: companies should bring operating contracts to national and European regulations and use these contracts to being more seamlessness to the user experience.  Overcoming the digital divide: facilitating and supporting the adoption of intuitive and easy-to-use digital solutions, while recognizing that a decreasing percentage of users will still need alternatives. ☁️ Gradually abandoning hardware: reducing dependency on obsolete hardware systems for ticket purchasing and information access, using the savings to implement all the above.
