🔊On behalf of the cycling companies, Cycling Industries Europe co-signs a joint statement for an ambitious next European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10) with more than 100 other European business and research associations. 🚴♀️ Investing in Europe’s future competitiveness through collaborative research, development, and innovation is essential for the cycling industry. This enables the industry to modernize, adopt new materials, develop a circular economy, and improve technologies such as advanced batteries and smart cycling systems. ➡️ This joint statement urges the EU Institutions to significantly increase the current budget for FP10 and to make pan-European collaborative research the cornerstone of FP10, addressing industrial needs through excellence. Urban mobility is being transformed by intelligent transport systems… And cycling is transforming urban mobility. But is there a point of convergence between cycling and intelligent transport systems? How can bikes generate data to ‘speak’ to intelligent transport infrastructure and other road users? How can data make it easier for cyclists to plan their routes, with info on real-time information on traffic, weather, and road conditions? How can the data be used to inform authorities about new infrastructure requirements? The MEGABITS project aims to scale up five flagships intelligent transport system projects across seven cities/regions, each with its own theme, but all with the same overall objective: generate and mobilise mobility data to make cycling safer, more convenient and more comfortable. A follow-up to the acclaimed BITS project, MEGABITS will run from 2023 to 2026. Follow the MEGABITS project to keep up with this fast-moving topic and delve into various intelligent transport initiatives worldwide!  👇
