Expanded Assessment Options for Selected Automotive Trades Applicants Removal of Mandatory Offshore Skills Assessment Program Requirement From 1 April 2023, the need for the following automotive trades from qualified applicants/countries of passport were removed from having to have their skills mandatorily assessed through the Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP). Applicants are now able to have their skills assessed through the Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) program. This change means that the applicants have the option of a less expensive documentary evidence only assessment and removes the need to complete an additional technical assessment. CRANE LIFTING AND SAFETY Lifting: Is the process of moving/shifting materials from one place to another. Crane: Is the machine used for Lifting heavy equipment or materials. Lifting/ Crane Lifting posses various types of hazards. ▪︎Mechanical Failure ▪︎Overturns. ▪︎Contact with Power Lines ▪︎No Lifting plan ▪︎ Uncertified operator/ Rigger ▪︎ Unstable or uneven ground. There are various requirements that has to be met before a Lifting operation using crane is began. ☆ A permit to work has to be obtained. ☆ A proper Lifting plan has to be available. ☆Crane operators and riggers have to be certified. ☆ The Ground level has to be stable. ☆ Area has to be barricaded and displayed warning signs. ☆ Load shall not be passed over workers ☆ Operators cabin visibility (360°). A Lifting plan must be in place for lifts of 40 tons and above and all special and difficulty lifts( High, long to lift, or two cranes). The Lifting plan must include; ◇Position of item to be lifted and the Lifting equipment. ◇Weight and configuration of item to be lifted. ◇ Radius of lift ◇Lifting restrictions. ◇ Details of Lifting equipment. ◇Calculated load chat attached. ◇Any Critical Lifting has to be included. What are Critical Lifting? •Tandom Lifting are Critical Lifting. (Lifting involving two cranes Lifting the same load). •Night time Lifting is Critical Lifting. •Heavy Lifting more than 40 Tons •Near Power line Lifting. e.t.c Always remember that while operating a crane the wind speed has to be a minimum of 32km/hr.
