PhD Researcher in Computational Psychiatry | Dementia early identification & prevention | Data-analysis & visualisation | Brain Health | Science Communication | Forbes 30 under 30
What an incredible scientific event the #AAIC2024 was! I deliberately call it an event not a conference because it is a space for so much more than scientific talks only. It is a space for fostering the community of neurodegeneration research, and it always offers something extra to its attendees (getting a massage in the conference centre? attending an evening reception in the museum? aromatherapy? - what?!). I witnessed some groundbreaking science and it was such an honour to be there for such pivotal moments like announcing new risk factors for Alzheimer's and increasing the number of potentially preventable cases to 45%! I work in early identification and prevention research so this was incredible news! The #AAIC24 is also a space for the community, for reunions, and for meeting new people. An honourable mention of my reunion and chats about the importance of positive motivation in the workplace with Sammy Danso who was on my MScR project supervision team in 2020. Now I am 6 months away from submitting my PhD so it felt unreal. There were many other great discussions I had such as a chat with Esraa M. Qansuwa about making science that applies to the real world, about the importance of owning our accomplishments and taking compliments with Audrey Low, about the importance of being happy for people getting the recognition for their hard work with Giovanna Carello Collar (and then she won the prize!), or about the need to really really really work with underrepresented communities not just to talk about the need of it with Francesca Farina and her Brain Health team. As I said, AAIC is much more than a scientific conference. Well done to the Alzheimer's Association® and ISTAART Alzheimer's Association including the team of Ambassadors led by Ozama Ismail and Claire Sexton. These people behind the scenes are the ones that make an event like this happen and we should keep recognising them. It was great! Sincerely, from one of last year's ambassadors who had a first-hand experience seeing all the behind-the-scenes effort! #brainhealth #sciencecommunication #conferences #scienceconference #scientificconference #dementiaawareness #brainhealthmatters #alzheimersdisease #alzheimers

Executive Director, Program Strategy & Operations. Advancing global research and development in Alzheimer’s diseases through enabling access to cohorts, partnerships, and innovative technical solutions
“We are building a longitudinal research cohort of 1 million people who reflect the disease in all its diversity so we can better understand the heterogeneity of Alzheimer’s disease and accelerate the development of precision medicine”, said founding chairman George Vradenburg in a recent Opinion in The Washington Post. This mission is what made me want to join the Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative in the first place and is what I have had the privilege to work on since I joined a year ago. Over the past 12 months, we have collaborated to build up 7 full programs spread across the world, the processes and ecosystems around them, and have gained wonderful partnerships and collaborators to collect and mine meaningful, representative data from regions traditionally underrepresented in the field. All data will be made publicly available to the research community on the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative Gates Ventures platform, so we can jointly achieve the second part of the statement: “understand the heterogeneity of Alzheimer’s disease and find treatments.” I can’t wait to see the programs come to full fruition and to add new cohorts to our portfolio in year 2! Innovator and designer of mobile, patient-centred technologies, sourdough baker, occasional academick. On Mastodon @interfaceaddict@hci.social
I am so excited to be giving this talk about the dynamic role of caregivers in dementia care, and how the term "user" is much too limited when discussing digital technologies for dementia care. Instead I introduce terms like "benefactors", "collaborators" and "proxies". Then I propose how we can frame these terms in the journey of dementia care.
📢 Call for Papers: We are excited to announce the workshop "HAID: Human-AI Interaction for Dementia Care workshop" at NordiCHI 2024 and cordially invite researchers, practitioners, and professionals to submit their papers or join our workshop. This workshop aims to explore the intersection of human-AI interaction, with a focus on advancing care and support for people living with dementia. 🗓️ Important Dates: • Submission deadline: 20 September 2024 • Workshop date: 13 Oct Sun - Morning (https://lnkd.in/dxGiMSnd) We are excited to feature two keynote speakers: Prof. Arvid Rongve and Dr. Pin Sym Foong.
