As we move towards a time when a cure for dementia may be possible, the reality is that at over $26,000 per person per year in cost, these new therapies will be out of the reach of most people living with dementia. Strategies that address the daily challenges that caregivers of persons with dementia must navigate are essential as LMIC health systems prepare to grapple with the needs of a growing and aging population. #PeerMentorship #WalkingTogether

At #CONy2024 in London, ADI CEO Paola Barbarino spoke on the vital importance of both international governmental organisations and national governments to address treatment access issues for those living with #dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She highlighted a critical issue that many health ministers worldwide do not fully understand the impact of dementia within their countries, a disconnection that can have severe implications to the mental health of people living with dementia and their carers. ADI calls on both international bodies and national governments to make dementia a health priority. More than ever, we need policy makers to step up and ensure that those affected by dementia receive the care they need. https://lnkd.in/e9eVvVtX #DementiaPolicy #TimeToActOnDementia #WhatsYourPlan #ADI

This week is Dementia Action Week (16 to 22 September). Dementia is Australia’s second leading cause of death, affecting approximately 411,100 people in 2023, with numbers expected to double by 2058. In the Brisbane South PHN area alone, an estimated 15,445 people live with #dementia. The theme of this year's Dementia Action Week is ‘act now for a dementia-friendly future’. One small way carers and health workers are helping create a dementia-friendly future is through the free My Health Journal resource. The My Health Journal is a free, user-friendly tool that helps people living with dementia to manage and track their healthcare appointments, GP communication and other important health information all in one place. Journals are available in English or simplified Chinese. Learn more and order My Health Journals here 👉 https://loom.ly/0UurdH8 #dementia #dementiadiagnosis #DementiaActionWeek #BrisbaneSouthPHN
