As an F1 fan and passionate people person, I had to listen to Williams Team Principal James Vowles on the High Performance Podcast. This podcast is always a great listen and I loved this one more than most. Whilst I loved revisiting the craziness of Brawn GP (still have the t-shirt somewhere) the line that had me punching the air was "It's all about People and Culture. Once you have those two, everything else flies". This from an engineer. From a man who talks passionately about the importance of data, research, mechanics and from a sport where pole position and races are won by 100ths of seconds. The biggest point of differential a team can have is people and culture. I couldn't have put it better myself - business problems require people solutions. https://lnkd.in/dJ-ENicC

What an interview! 🎙️ Check out this interview of James Vowles on the High Performance Podcast. His perspective on self-awareness, changing the culture in a team, and how to handle difficult situations is quite impressive and insightful. 💡 What struck me the most is his current leadership style that he is adopting within the Williams Racing Team. Bringing about change requires taking the time to learn. Change doesn't happen overnight but during a period of learning🏎️💭 "I don't care about 2023, I don't care about 2024, hell, I don't care about 2025. I care that you learn during this time. A free pass to learn." - James Vowles #Leadership #Inspiration #HighPerformance https://lnkd.in/eugZfuTQ

I've worked in F1 for over 20 years and I still get asked three questions more than any others: 1) "Do you get to drive the cars?"; 2) "What's Lewis Hamilton REALLY like?"; and 3) "So what do you actually do during the winter when there's no racing?" As the best possible answer to the final question, this new podcast goes behind the scenes of our team and our "frenemies" at Williams to bring to life the monumental quantity of work that goes into bringing a brand new car to the track each season. It's a tale of sky-high ambition, constant firefighting, weekend-free working weeks and much more; but most of all, it's a tale of the huge levels of passion, commitment and ingenuity that go into every single machine on the grid. Check it out at all the usual places you download your podcasts! PS: The answer to 1) is "no", for 2) it's "a thoroughly decent and humble human who also happens to be probably the greatest ever driver of a Formula One car that our sport has seen". https://lnkd.in/e6-BcvHv

I was very impressed by Jim Farley on The Smoking Tire Podcast - shout out to Matt Farah and Zack Klapman for creating a great platform and community where this kind of rich discussion can occur. As a professional communicator, a few things stood out to me in this discussion - Jim’s passion, acumen in the many dimensions of his company, vision, and humanity. It is a dream set of capabilities to create an authentic conversation: passion - for the brand, for motorsport, for building incredible products for customers, deep market and financial acumen - when recounting sales figures, hybrid vs. EV market segmentation, vision - he demonstrated mastery of Ford’s future vision for electrification, the current customer reality and autonomy, and what is a real x-factor for so many, humanity. “Selfaware enough to know that when I go to the race track, there is going to be someone with a Super Duty who said, ‘You let me down, and I’m pissed off.” I’m betting that wasn’t in the prep doc, but the best clients I’ve worked with know when to push the PR folks’ buttons, just a little bit. 😉 Also, I have a ton of respect for Matt Farah, who spends the time to be smart on more than just displacement or lap times. The discussion on product mix, electrification, and autonomy builds on doing the reading, speaking with the experts, and speaking on the topics that are so important to our future because all of these things must co-exist, from enthusiast vehicles to vulnerable road users. Check it out. https://lnkd.in/g3sm8Uw3
