Hope lies in the everyday heroes that worked for the freedoms we have today. In February 1986, after movements around the country, the people of the Philippines marched for their freedom in the EDSA People Power Revolution. What came to be known as a landmark peaceful revolution marked the beginning of the end for the fourteen-year long dictatorship. Project Habilin sheds light on the stories of the everyday heroes that mobilized their communities leading up to People Power, through short animated videos. The Habilin team led by hope-based experts Mika Ortega and Oya Arriola shared that the series started with a simple question from young people they’ve engaged with: how can we retell the story of the People Power Revolution? The team writes, “How can we reactivate the youth and take back the ownership of our nation’s stories? What are we called to tell and retell to collectively learn from the everyday heroes of this period?“ The first installation featuring 12 Filipino heroes was first released in 2021, and the material continues to take on new life as it’s shared with different communities and young people around the country. Here’s what we learned from Project Habilin: 👨👩👦 Hope-based storytelling starts at home! Parents have used the material to talk their kids through this time period that they themselves lived through. 📖 We can look back on these time periods and find stories of hope that we can still learn from today. Doing this also helps newer and younger audiences make sense of democratic principles and processes and how they remain relevant to our lives today. These audiences view these principles and terms as abstract, but telling a story they can relate with helps bridge the gap. 💬 Hope-based storytelling sparks questions and conversations from younger generations. With the accompanying Teaching Guide, educators and leaders are able to use the series to foster a safe space for reflection and reimagination of the future ahead. ⭐ Moving forward, after telling the stories of the heroes who are no longer with us, Habilin will be telling the stories of the heroes who are still with us and doing the work in positive social change. The stories we need to hear now are how our heroes continue to keep their light and hope alive. Read more about Habilin Season 2 and check out the teaching guide, podcast, and the series on YouTube! As we commemorate# WorldMenstruationDay, let us be reminded that access to sanitary products like pads and tampons remains a huge issue across much of Africa. Many girls miss school during their periods simply because they cannot afford or access adequate protection. Not having access to pads or cloth can lead to girls resorting to unsafe materials like rags, ash, newspapers, or leaves during their periods. This increases the risks of infections, toxic shock syndrome, and cervical cancer. Deep-rooted cultural stigma and taboos around menstruation also negatively impact girls. In some communities, menstruating girls are seen as unclean and are prohibited from sharing spaces with boys, cooking, or participating in religious activities. This type of marginalization due to normal biological functions can seriously impact their self-esteem and mental health Improving access to affordable sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, gender-friendly school facilities, and fighting stigma are critical to ensuring girls can safely and confidently manage their periods without compromising their health, education, and socio-economic development. With awareness and support, we can work to establish menstrual equity and rights for all.
#MenstrualHygieneDay2024❣️ #PeriodFriendlyWorld. We are thrilled to introduce Reagan , a youth advocate In Uganda and winner of the #PowerToYouth Uganda Menstrual Hygiene Stories Competition. The uniqueness of his story highlights the role of men and boys in ensuring a period friendly world for women and girls like debunking stigmas. Just like Reagan who was motivated by his advocacy of creating a period friendly world, we look forward to having more men and boys creating safe spaces for adolescent girls and women during their menstrual period. 📸Watch Reagan, as he adds his voice to a period friendly world https://lnkd.in/e_Y_25G3

Did you know that over a billion people worldwide lack access to basic vision care? In developing countries, this challenge is particularly acute, with over 800 million people with presbyopia that simply need reading glasses to improve their quality of life. To tackle this critical need, innovative collaborations are emerging to provide new solutions. We've partnered with Healthy Entrepreneurs and RestoringVision, supported by the Million Lives Collective and Bayer Foundation, to measure the impact of a program aimed at addressing vision impairments in underserved communities in Uganda. We spoke with Mark Lorey from RestoringVision, Juliette Van Halst from Healthy Entrepreneurs and Olivia Elson from Results for Development to get a first-hand perspective on the 60dB impact data gathered from the pilot. A huge shout out to everyone who made this project possible: Jacob Thamarappally, Ramiro Rejas, Aayushi Kachalia, Sanjana Singh, Millicent Magak, Stefan Wilhelm, Jacob Gomez, Anna Giulia Ponchia, anna vos, Jonah Ngobi. ⚽ Bringing the AFCON Semi-Final Thrill to the Workplace! ⚡🏆 Excited to share a little innovation that can add a dash of fun to your workday! 🚀🤩 I recently worked on a Lightning Web Component that can turn your workspace into the ultimate hub for live updates on the AFCON semi-final clash between South Africa 🇿🇦 and Nigeria 🇳🇬! Because let's face it, even workaholics need a soccer break, right? ⚽🔥 In the midst of emails and meetings, it may be tough for our amazing teams to catch the nail-biting action live. So, why not bring the stadium vibes to the office? 🏟️💼 Beyond the excitement, it got me thinking about the significance of integrating recreational activities into our work culture 🤔. Research shows that a healthy dose of sports and leisure not only boosts morale but also enhances productivity! 📈💪 When we care about our team's hobbies and interests, it creates a positive environment that fuels creativity and collaboration. After all, a happy team is a productive team, right? 😊🚀 So, here's to fostering a workspace where passion and productivity go hand in hand! Let's keep the spirit alive, support our colleagues' interests, and turn our workplace into a vibrant community. Who else is ready to cheer on their favorite team tomorrow? Best of luck to Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Super Eagles of Nigeria. DISCLAIMER: this is not a score prediction😁 but a celebration of the joy of work and play as well as the beauty of technology. #worklifebalance #afcon #employeeengagement #teamspirit #innovationatwork #salesforce #lightningwebcomponents #lwc #southafrica #nigeria
