Here is the link to attend: https://lnkd.in/gMWmBURu Presentation details: We often talk about how to support first generation college students, but what about first generation employees? In this presentation you will learn best practices for workforce development with high school students, specifically students who are immigrants or refugees. Topics covered include how to break down career skills in a way that is culturally relevant and trauma informed. You will learn how to work with young people from start to end: from making sure they are eligible to work with the documents required, the application process including how to explain the fields on job applications, jobs that work well for students with limited English proficiency, how to coach students on following up on their application and interview preparation, filling out hiring paperwork, explaining pay stubs, and what is expected at a job. We will break down “professionalism” and what that means including expectations for types of communication, problem solving, community norms, decision making, and showing characteristics such as demonstrating initiative, flexibility and reliability. This workshop will help prepare you to work with anyone in their first job, but especially young people who are immigrants or refugees.
