Dear Colleagues, The abstract submission for the 27th ESAFORM Conference held in Toulouse, France on 24-27 April 2024, is open. Please visit the conference website (https://esaform24.fr/) for all the news and information regarding the conference. We would very much appreciate your participation and we look forward to meeting you in Toulouse. Important dates • Abstracts submission deadline – September 30th, 2023 • Full papers submission deadline – January, 5th, 2024 Within this conference will be held the minisymposium (MS14) “Polymer Processing and Thermomechanical Properties” The aim of this symposium is to bring together specialists from academia and industry dealing with modelling and experimental analysis of polymer processing and induced properties. This MS extends from thermo-chemo-mechanical characterization of polymers to coupled transfers in processes, in particular heat transfer in molded parts, tools and interfaces. The main topics of the minisymposium are: -Thermomechanical modelling and optimization of polymers processes -New challenges for characterization and modelling of thermo-chemo-physical properties in homogeneous and heterogeneous media; -Heat transfer phenomena in molds/tools associated with polymers processes -Specific thermal metrology applied to polymers processing; Best regards, N.Allanic, O. De Almeida, F.Chabert, C.Garnier, G.Menary, R.Spina, V.Sobotka

The 4 March 2024 NITheCS Colloquium 'How to build highways in a cell' by Prof Kristian Müller-Nedebock (Stellenbosch University) is now available online. Abstract: 'From the perspective of a physicist, living cells are fascinating non-equilibrium systems that contain many different structures. These are assembled and dissembled in the cell, can serve as the highways for transport, or form a basis for cell division, for example. We look at how statistical physics can add insights about the form and function of structures in cells. In particular, we show how one can understand some structural and elastic properties of the cytoskeleton and how molecular motors, in combination with cytoskeletal filaments, participate in biological processes.'
