Over the last 50 years, California's total vineyard area grew by 383,000 acres (+77%). In 1971, raisin grapes accounted for the largest share (50% of CA's total vineyard area). However, while raisin decreased by 110,000 acres, the wine grape area surged (+435,000 acres, +242%) and now accounts for 70% of CA's total vineyard area. #winehistory

Little known. In 1968, there was more Aligoté in Côte-d’Or than Chardonnay – and many red hybrid grape varieties, e.g., Oberlin noir (hybrid by C. Oberlin, Gamay x vitis riparia), Plantet (hybrid by A. Seibel, Seibel 867 x unknown), and Baco (hybrid by F. Baco, vinifera Folle blanche x vitis riparia)
