7 more Canadair for Greece is a win for all mediterranean olive growers, agricultural and animal farmers. It goes without saying it will save live’s and property in populated areas. These planes can also help Greece’s neighbours in an emergency and we will probably see immediate benefits and measurable returns. Having seen these water bombers plenty of times in action, they really do make a difference at the first plume of smoke in a mountain region. Will it help the destruction of olive crops to ensure pricing returns to normal one day? Let’s hope.
A joint statement between the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has confirmed the Greek acquisition of seven state-of-the-art DHC-515 firefighting aircraft from the Canadian Commercial Corporation.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is a Commonwealth government department that promotes and protects Australia’s international interests. DFAT also runs the Smartraveller website, providing overseas travel advice to many Australian travellers every year. DFAT updates travel advisories if there are new or increased risks to Australians. This can be in response to new developments, such as credible intelligence reporting, major protests or unrest, new entry requirements or a natural disaster. They engaged ASA to utilise Esri Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to undertake map creation, data maintenance and map production for six regions and over 170 destinations. This project enables ASA to equip young neurodivergent adults with in-demand geospatial and data analysis skills, creating valuable future employment opportunities. It won the 2023 Geospatial Council of Australia (Australian Capital Territory division) Community Impact Award. Judges said, “This project provides an outreach program that should be highly commended for its unique approach to engaging talented members of the community in challenging and satisfying employment within a spatial field. The new approach to providing mapping products on the Smartraveller site is innovative and invaluable.” Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gZSg_BkM #Socialenterprise #Neurodiversity #Spatial #SpatialData #SpatialIntelligence #Autism #Diversity #Inclusion #Geospatial #Travel #TravelAdvice #TravelTips #TravelWarnings Tim Watts Murray Watt Department of Employment and Workplace Relations Amanda Rishworth Anthony Albanese Department of Social Services (DSS)

The future of Interreg is knocking at our door! The debate on the future of #CohesionPolicy already started last year, and now it is the right time to give concrete ideas and inputs on how Interreg should look like after 2027. Six transnational programmes (Interreg ADRION Programme, Interreg Alpine Space, Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme, Interreg Euro-MED Programme, Interreg NEXT MED Programme and Interreg Sudoe Programme) jointly launched a survey through which you can let us know which topics you deem important for Interreg transnational cooperation, what you think works well, and what could be improved. Your feedback will directly inform the position of policy makers that are responsible for coming up with concrete policy proposals next year! If you want to be actively involved in shaping the future of Interreg after 2027, take part in the survey at: https://lnkd.in/etr2GV4G

KEY TAKEAWAYS In December 2023, the State Department announced that the U.S. had defined the area of its extended continental shelf (ECS). The ECS is a maritime area extending beyond a country's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Within an ECS, a country has certain rights to the seabed and subsoil. The largest chunk of the additions was in the Arctic — and it could prove strategically important.
