Hello everyone! I am currently doing my capstone project as part of my Climate Studies degree at Plymouth State University and I am interning with Climate Action LCV as a grassroots field organizer. Climate Action LCV is an environmental nonprofit and project of the League of Conservation Voters, which is what LCV stands for. This is currently the name, as it is during voting season, but we are called Climate Action NH any other time. We are dedicated to spreading awareness about environmental issues, as well as advocating for conservation and green energy policy. One of the things we are encouraging people to do is sign a couple of different petitions that tell Congress what we want to see passed. One of the petitions is the Environmental Justice for All Act, as everyone has the right to climate justice and to live in a community free of pollution. Many communities of people of color are in polluted environments and near places like methane facilities, and this act looks to address environmental racism. The second petition is the Freedom to Vote Act, which focuses on protecting our freedom to vote in every state in order to expand voter access. This also combats big money politics, promotes integrity in our election systems and generally gives people access to clean air, clean water, etc. If you are interested to sign, there is more information on the mobilize website. Here are the links to the petitions: https://lnkd.in/dy3xeSSm https://lnkd.in/dRWxGK3u

Democratic innovations could have more impact if we think of them as collaborations with politicians. We’re proud to be recognized in Apolitical Foundation’s list of pioneering practitioners recognizing political leaders’ role in spreading and institutionalizing these big ideas. More on how we’re seeking a new way forward that emphasizes the importance of politicians in protecting and reviving democracy through democratic innovation: https://ow.ly/uSFw50QxRAG

Because of gerrymandered maps, our elected officials often fail to respond to Ohio voters’ views on pressing issues, like fighting climate change. That’s why we’re working with Ohioans across the state to end gerrymandering. We’re part of a coalition of Ohio citizens fighting to put citizens in charge of the map-making process. Put citizens, not politicians, in charge of redistricting. Learn more and get involved: https://ow.ly/1SaP50RY2hY

the ownership of media by powerful lobbies, barons, and tycoons has significant implications for the functioning of democracy. By leveraging agenda setting, framing, and priming, these media owners can shape public opinion and influence the political decision-making process in ways that serve their own interests rather than the public good. Addressing this challenge is crucial for the preservation of a vibrant and inclusive democracy.

"Democrats have repeatedly assailed Project 2025 at the Democratic National Convention, attacking its far-right 900-page policy agenda compiled by right-wing groups, but the conservative project is also working on a detailed policy playbook for the first 180 days of a potential Trump administration—and unlike the policy agenda that Democrats have hauled onto the convention stage, the public is unlikely to ever find out what it says. ... In addition to a 900-page policy agenda laying out proposals and staffing efforts, Project 2025 says the “fourth pillar” of its plan is a “playbook” providing more detailed policy plans for a future Trump administration’s first 180 days, which includes “a comprehensive, concrete transition plan for each federal agency.” Unlike Project 2025’s initial policy agenda, however, that playbook has not been publicly released yet, and secretly recorded footage released in mid-August by the Centre for Climate Reporting—in which undercover journalists posing as potential donors spoke directly with Project 2025 authors—underscores that’s by design." #americafirst #usa #biden #harris #trump #elections #democrats #gop #climatechange

"Many of us avoid political conversation because of the risk of conflict, the risk of vulnerability, the risk that we'll be challenged and that we might have to change. And those risks are very real. But we have found that it is worth the risk and, in fact, the very personal work we have to do in order to participate in openhearted political dialogue." - Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening): A Guide to Grace-Filled Political Conversations If you're struggling through political conversations this election cycle, Sarah and Beth's two books, 'I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening)' and 'Now What?! How to Move Forward When We're Divided (About Basically Everything)' is like having a pocket Sarah and Beth with you to be a friendly companion, coach, and pep talk through these hard conversations.
