Employment connections for the Military Community@RecruitMilitary | Event Director | Business Development | Military Transition Mentor | Family Man | Navy Veteran | Fairly Poor Gamer
Great event at submarine base Kings Bay here in GA! How so? Glad you asked... RecruitMilitary inaugural event saw some great traffic for a relatively small area. But the connections being made over the four hours were amazing to watch. A few direct hire opportunities, multiple on-site interviews, and a LOT of happy recruiters left with a list of call backs. I enjoyed seeing a large number of first amd second term Sailors and Marines (mostly) walk in hesitant, unsure of what to expect, much less how to even start a conversation. My advice to them stayed simple: 1. I've done these events for 2 years, amd STILL meet companies I dod not know or had heard of. So, ask! Let them tell you about themselves. 2. Be authentic! There's no need to try and "sell" yourself as anything you are not. While it makes sense to practice an introduction speech, don't become robotic about it. Enjoy simply having the conversation. 3. Network with purpose! Connect, converse, and follow up! Recruiters talk to other recruiters. 4. Stop at every booth. Opportunities constantly cone from places people never expected them too. Don't assume you know what any company is hiring for. It's like saying "no" for them. Having so many in-person and virtual events offers a lot of opportunities for connection and employment. Use all your tools! #veteranshelpingveterans #gladyouasked #transitioningmilitary

I Help Veterans Make Effective Transition to Corporate | Coached & Mentored 140+ Transitioning Veterans | Impacted 1200+ Veterans | LinkedIn Top Voice | LinkedIn Strategist | Toastmaster | 1 M Content Views
Eight years ago, I transitioned from the Navy to the corporate job. Along the way, I discovered this theory. The Red Car Theory. Job opportunities, like red cars, are everywhere, but we often fail to notice them. By fostering curiosity and openness, networking actively, staying informed about industry trends, and being open to roles that may not be immediately obvious, one can find more job opportunities that align with their skills and passions. Transitioning from the military to a civilian career has been far more challenging than I ever imagined. As a military recruiter, I stood before countless high school students, passionately telling them that military service would set them apart in the job market. I truly believed that hiring managers would see our discipline, determination, and loyalty as invaluable traits. I envisioned myself seamlessly stepping into a role within the DoD or Aerospace & Defense industry, at companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, etc. Yet, here I am today, feeling more defeated than ever. Despite earning my graduate degree while serving full-time and consistently exceeding my recruiting goals, I find myself struggling to even secure an interview. I've submitted hundreds of applications, rewritten my resume countless times, and reached out to numerous connections on LinkedIn, but the response has been disheartening. To add to the challenge, as an Active Duty service member (AGR), I didn’t qualify for the DoD-SkillBridge program. Although I am a veteran, I don’t qualify for the VR&E Service For Veterans, LLC program because I am still serving in the Guard and currently don’t have a service-connected disability. This is a reality for thousands of service members who, like me, possess invaluable skills but fall through the cracks of these programs. Filled with humility and vulnerability, I now turn to sharing my story with you guys. It’s never fun to admit defeat, and it’s even less fun to ask for help..but here I am. I am seeking an opportunity to learn, develop new skills, and prove that I can be an invaluable asset to your company. I am ready to contribute to a greater cause and demonstrate that my military background has equipped me with unique and valuable competencies. To all hiring managers and recruiters, I am here, eager and ready to bring my experience, dedication, and work ethic to your team. Given the chance, I will serve your organization as faithfully as I served my country. #Veteran #JobSeeker #CareerTransition #HireVeterans #DoD #AerospaceAndDefense #MilitarySkills #Opportunity #LinkedInNetworking

Government Affairs & Nonprofit Executive | Connecting Veterans to Meaningful Careers | Former White House Senior Staff Member | Chief Member
This weekend, I had a meaningful conversation with a friend who is also an executive in corporate America. As it can do when speaking with me, our discussion turned to veteran hiring. We all recognize the value of hiring veterans, yet the reality is that veterans are in high demand, making the process quite competitive. However, there’s a gap—a disconnect between the desire to hire veterans and the actual recognition of their military experience during the hiring and promotion process. After honoring those who have served this Memorial Day weekend, let’s continue to honor veterans by creating meaningful opportunities for them in the workforce. From the Executive Summary, "The report finds that veterans are highly educated, skilled, and experienced. However, military experience remains undervalued in the civilian workforce — to the detriment of employers. As a result, veterans are half as likely to reach director or vice president leadership roles despite having nearly 2x more work experience than nonveterans. Leadership is also a top skill for veterans, but employers may not be taking full advantage of this. Join us in changing the future of work for veterans by learning how you can contribute to creating equitable employment outcomes for this community and yours."
