Some useful commentary here from Alvin Forster for anyone dealing with bunker related claims.
The international standard for marine fuels ISO 8217 has long been relied upon by shipowners and charterers alike as the go-to reference when ordering a vessel’s bunkers or specifying fuel requirements in charterparties. In 2024, the seventh edition was published. Solis Marine’s Alvin Forster, Head of Marine Engineering Services, introduces the new edition of the fuel standard ISO 8217:2024, highlighting the key amendments and the issues relevant to bunker related disputes and claims. To discuss your marine engineering consultancy needs, contact Alvin: a.forster@solis-marine.com Read the full article on Solis Marine's website at https://lnkd.in/erqDYtUZ #marineengineering #marinefuels #ISO8217 #solismarine

I am thrilled to share the latest article published by NorthStandard. This insightful piece emphasises the importance of utilising Coltraco Ultrasonics' technology to prevent marine and cargo losses. It highlights the specific applications of our ultrasonic technologies within the global shipping industry, including monitoring and ensuring vessel structural integrity. This underscores the value of our ultrasonic solutions in reducing risks and optimising performance in the maritime sector. You can read the full article here: Using ultrasonic technologies to prevent casualties and claims | NorthStandard (north-standard.com)
Our instruments are onboard 17% of the world’s 60,000 ships. In this NorthStandard article, we discuss the value of using ultrasonic technology and how it can help prevent marine and cargo losses. According to Allianz’s Safety & Shipping Review 2023, fire was the second leading cause of large ship loss in 2022, having increased since 2021. Foundering was the leading cause, which was overwhelmingly caused by water ingress. The ease of use of ultrasonic level indication devices permits agent verification in CO2 extinguishing systems to be undertaken faster and more reliably than any conventional method. Likewise, ultrasonic weathertightness indicators provide a simple and effective means to ensure weathertight integrity, not only preventing water ingress which can cause ship loss, but also protecting sensitive cargoes. https://lnkd.in/e8qNkcQe

Sonihull’s Darren Rowlands shares key insights into transforming vessel maintenance. By utilising Sonihull Ultrasonics, vessels such as FSRUs and FPSOs can significantly cut down on chemical usage in their cooling systems. Chemical intrusion in maritime operations not only poses environmental risks but also impacts vessel efficiency and asset life cycle. Our innovative Sonihull & Agitate products offer a cost-effective alternative, reducing your chemical input and minimising your carbon footprint while improving your vessel's CII rating. By removing the toxic chemicals, we are creating a more sustainable future on the seas together with reducing end user maintenance costs. Join us in embracing maritime sustainability and let us explain how Sonihull Ultrasonics can tailor solutions to fit your vessel's needs and contribute to a cleaner, more efficient maritime industry. Sonihull can be your dichlorination partner and together we can navigate towards a brighter, cleaner future for our oceans. Applications include: ● Heat Exchangers ● Sea Chests ● Hulls ● Box Coolers ● Propellers ● Thrusters ● Cross-Over Pipes ● Bulbous Bows ● Keel Coolers ● Water Jets ● IPS Drives ● Ballast Tanks ● RSW Valves ● Condensers

Interesting article on cracks in highspeed trains. However, the overall mechanisms are still far from being understood. Therefore, non-destructive inspection methods, in particular for high-speed trains, are of utter importance to prevent catastrophic material fatigue! In this context, for sure Deutsche Bahn established one of the highest safety standards worldwide, such defining a real benchmark! With increasing high-speed railworks and milage on the one hand, and multiple sourcing problems for new wheels on the other hand, it is obvious that these benchmark will be the blueprint for other countries as well . Moreover, besides existing standards, rail wheel NDT will be one of THE dedicated applications for REAL NDT 4.0, i.e. tracking inspection data of rail wheels from the production over the full lifetime! (see also article published at NDT.net Werner, D., Franzen, A., Henrix, F., Philipps, U., Buschke, P., & Würschig, T. (2023). Digitalization for Railway-NDT - A Journey Through Wheel Inspection.
