How are you spending your free time? In the agency of others? Giving to your local community? Finding happiness in giving your time and energy for free to a cause? What’s keeping you from giving one hour to your local homeless shelter, food bank or dog shelter? You can create change, you can have an impact on your local communities and you can teach your kids to give because in giving we receive (see YouTube, Adam Grant “Takers” if you’re not convinced). This is Toby. Each Saturday I volunteer at the dog shelter and he brings me so much joy to walk and play with. He needs a home and until someone adopts him, myself and our volunteers are all he has. And what a great dog he is! Can you imagine what the world would be like if we all gave a little to our communities? Go do something for your community (and stop with the excuses, try it)! If you need ideas, message me!

*Pont-Sondé: A Heartbreaking Tragedy That Demands Our Action* I’ve been sitting with a heavy heart since I learned about the massacre in Pont-Sondé, Haiti. Over *70* lives innocent infants, women, and men were taken in an act of pure cruelty by the _Gran Grif gang._ Their homes were destroyed, and their families torn apart. And what’s worse, this tragedy could have been prevented warnings were issued, but nothing was done. It’s hard not to feel angry and deeply saddened by this. I think about the people who fled in fear, the children who will grow up without their families, and the feeling of abandonment by those meant to protect them. 1. The Power of Solidarity: 🤲 In moments like this, I believe we have a choice. We can sit back and let the sadness paralyze us, or we can turn that grief into action. The survivors of Pont-Sondé need us they need solidarity. Whether through donations, sharing their story, or pressuring our governments to act, we can all play a part in helping rebuild lives. 2. Facing a Failed System: 💔 It’s hard to accept that this could have been avoided. The authorities knew about the threat and still failed to act. This isn’t just about violence; it’s about a system that allows it to flourish. We must speak up and demand real accountability from those in power. 3. A Personal Call for Peace: 💬 This tragedy has me reflecting deeply on what peace truly means. It’s not just the absence of war it’s the freedom to live without fear. It’s the responsibility we have to each other as human beings. I’m committed, more than ever, to fighting for peace and being a voice for those who have been silenced. I’m sharing this today not just to mourn, but to invite all of you to take action. Haiti deserves better, and so does every nation struggling with violence. Let’s stand together, even if our hearts are heavy, and fight for a world where tragedies like Pont-Sondé don’t happen again. If you feel moved by this, please share your thoughts or ways we can contribute to peace in the comments. Let’s make sure this heartbreak leads to something better. 💬👇 #GriefIntoAction #SolidarityForHaiti #PeaceForAll #JusticeForPontSonde #EndTheViolence #HumanDignity #LinkedInCreator

Alpine Entrepreneur MICDA, Board Director- Community Advocate - Mt Hotham Chamber Pres - Alpine CRC & Resilience Dep Chair - ARIAG Dep Chair - Murrundindi & Alpine Shire Project Panel Member + Other Stuff!
One of the main areas of improvement out of 19/20 fires was a the ability for community to access funds without an extensive level of red tape. Sure, there does need to be some checks and balances but (for example) asking someone for their birth certificate prior to allocating funds when all their possessions have been burnt is probably not the smartest move. I mean community can verify. It’s organisations like this that have an approach of “can do” in times when people’s mental health is not what it should be and the stress of the situation is high. Well done and an excellent case study for others to look at moving forward. Community is usually very honest with feedback. #winning #changeforthebest #community #recovery #listening #enabling #support #relief #thankyou
Safe to say, our team is still beaming about this feedback from a local Bega Valley resident! The GIVIT way of giving means our team is here for the long haul in disaster-impacted communities. Coupled with the incredible support organisations on the ground, we are helping to rebuild communities that have been devastated by disaster. Do you know a not-for-profit that needs help sourcing what's needed for people they support? Tag them here. They can register online and for free.
