Earth Overshoot Day marks the point when humanity’s demand for natural resources exceeds what the Earth can renew in a year. This means we're using up our planet's resources faster than they can be replenished. But there’s hope! By making more sustainable choices and advocating for systemic change, we can #MoveTheDate and give our planet the chance to recover. It's time to turn the tide and make way for a better tomorrow! #EarthOvershootDay #SustainabilityMatters #ecoPRISM

🌍 Another year, another unfortunate #EarthOvershootDay. Today, humanity's demand on nature's resources surpassed what the Earth can regenerate this year. From now on until the end of 2024, we are living on ecological credit, depleting local resource stocks and accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Since the 1970s, Earth Overshoot Day has moved from December to August (explore past Earth Overshoot Days here: https://lnkd.in/gCuXDhe). 👉 But we can change this. Humanity's carbon footprint makes up 60% of our Ecological Footprint. Reducing our carbon footprint by even half can #movethedate by 93 days (https://lnkd.in/gMfTT2K)! 👉 Are you a company looking to reduce your carbon emissions? We can help you capture carbon and accelerate your energy transition. Happy Earth Overshoot Day! Joint earliest ever. The Overshoot Day marks the date when our demand for resources outstrips what Earth can regenerate in a year. We're effectively using 1.75 Earths. There is no Planet B. There's a beautiful Planet A worth saving. https://lnkd.in/ev_fZ6H2 #netzero #energyefficiency #climatechange #climateaction #movethedate

Today is Earth Overshoot Day. This means we have collectively used more of Earth’s resources in 7mo than can be regenerated in a year. For the rest of the year, we are operating at an ecological deficit, which compounds with last year’s ecological deficit and previous year’s deficits. We are drastically limiting Earth’s capability to sustain life, and ultimately us. #ecologicaldeficit #ecologicalfootprint #overshoot #ecoliteracy #planetaryboundaries #environmentalleadership #sustainabilityleadership
Happy Earth Overshoot Day 🎉🥳 In 7 months we’ve used all the resources the planet can regenerate in one year. For the rest of the year we’ll be stealing from future generations. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gXxNXJ2X #earthovershootday

We are on August 1st, and the planet has consumed all the natural resources it can regenerate for the entire year of 2024. This marks 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. Earth Overshoot Day is a concept developed by the Global Footprint Network to highlight the date when humanity's demand for ecological resources and services exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. This means that for the remainder of 2024, we are essentially living on borrowed resources, depleting our planet's natural capital faster than it can be replenished. The fact that Earth Overshoot Day occurs just after seven months into the year is alarming. It indicates that humanity is currently using nature 1.7 times faster than our planet's ecosystems can regenerate. To reverse this trend and push Earth Overshoot Day later in the year, we need to focus on sustainable solutions in key areas such as cities, energy, food, population, and the planet. For example, cutting CO2 emissions from fossil fuels by 50% would move the date by three months. Excellent post by Erin Remblance, which acts as a reminder that we are operating on a planet with finite resources, currently using unsustainable operating systems. It does not have to be this way. We can be all part of the change. I recommend reading ‚Atomic Habits‘ by James Clear to get some inspiration for the life- and systems-changing habits we could put in place.

🚨The Alarming Truth about Earth Overshoot Day Today, August 1st, 2024, marks the Earth Overshoot Day - the date when humanity has exhausted nature's budget for the year. Think about that for a moment. We've consumed all the resources meant for a year in just 7 months.🌍 It's not about affordability anymore, is it? We can still purchase water, food, and other resources, but the harsh reality is that we're overconsuming at an unsustainable rate. The point is not whether we can afford these things, but whether the planet can keep up with our demands. This is a wake-up call 📢📢 that we need to be more aware of our consumption habits and the long-term consequences of our actions. We may have the money to buy whatever we want, but if we continue down this path, we won't have the resources to sustain our needs. It's time for a fundamental shift in how we approach resource management and environmental stewardship. This is a complex and urgent challenge, but one that we must address collectively. Let's use this Earth Overshoot Day as a catalyst for meaningful change - for the sake of our planet and the generations to come. #earthovershootday #sustainability #action #planetearth

Earth Overshoot Day* (EOD) is the calendar date on which humanity's resource consumption for the year exceeds what our Earth is able to regenerate. This year, it’s today, August 1. We’re operating in a wildly unsustainable deficit. However, we can fix this by embracing a new economic paradigm that centers people and planet over maximizing profit and perpetual growth. *Not to be confused with each country’s overshoot day, which for the US, was back on March 15 #postgrowth #degrowth #planetaryboundaries #getinthedoughnut #decarbonize #makelessbuyless
