We’re thrilled to share that Tom Harries, Partner at NARDAC, will be moderating a key panel at the Reuters Events Sustainability Europe 2024 Summit. The panel, "Europe's Industrial Crossroads: Navigating Resilience Amidst Global Power Shifts,” held on the Reuters Impact stage, will open up in-depth conversations as to how Europe can navigate deindustrialisation, outsourced production and an increasing reliance on other global economic powerhouses, while endeavouring to re-ignite domestic growth through low carbon innovation in industry and agriculture. Tom will be in conversation with industry and policy leaders Connie Hedegaard (OECD - OCDE), Fabien Chêne (Schneider Electric), Archana Jagannathan (PepsiCo Europe), and Robert Ziegler (Einride) in what promises to be an enlivening discussion examining what is a key inflexion point for Europe in planning sustainable economic and industrial policy in the coming decades. #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenEconomy #ReutersEvents #SustainabilityEurope #Europe #NARDAC

In our latest BGP study, we examine the growing impact of carbon pricing on the dairy industry. To align with the Paris Climate Agreement goals by 2040, carbon costs are projected to reach €180 per ton of CO2 emissions—nearly triple today’s rates. 🌍 Denmark is already leading the charge, becoming the first country to implement a carbon tax on dairy production starting in 2030. As carbon costs rise, businesses will need to decide whether to absorb the additional expenses, pass them on to consumers, or shift towards more sustainable practices. As carbon pricing continues to increase, the move towards sustainable dairy alternatives is becoming a critical business imperative. Early adopters will gain a competitive edge, while others risk falling behind in this evolving landscape. Is your business ready for the future of carbon pricing? 🔗 Read our full study to explore how carbon pricing could shape the future of dairy production. Link in comments.

And we are live! https://shorturl.at/It0wo The Sustainable Consumption Index brings transparency on the climate impact of consumption - and serves as an important guidance as we scale solutions enabling more sustainable consumption and accelerate the shift towards an inclusive, sustainable economy. Sweden is first out with this tool, where we can now map the impact of personal consumption trends across an entire country. And of course we didn't do this ourselves - the Sustainability Innovation Lab is all about co-creation and collaboration. This time it's possible because of a great partnership with Doconomy and fellow Mastercard colleagues. Mathias Wikström, Johan Pihl, Philip Herrey, Filippa Högling, Martin Tägtström, Lukas Ekberg, Johanna Elvinsson, Marielle Brunelle - you all rock! Please try it out and let us know what you think - maybe it sparks ideas on how you can innovate and collaborate towards a more sustainable economy. We want to hear from you! Nicolas Endress, CEO & Founder of ClimEase, took the stage to present "How Your Purchase Team Will Save the Climate," highlighting the pivotal role purchasing teams play in environmental sustainability. Representing ClimEase, a bronze sponsor of the event, Endress began his presentation by thanking the organizers for the opportunity to participate and share their vision. He started with an introduction to climate science, emphasizing the critical need for a global carbon tax as a fundamental tool in combating climate change. Endress then discussed the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), describing it as the last crucial piece of the green policy puzzle that aims to level the playing field for EU manufacturers by charging importers for carbon emissions associated with goods entering the EU. Further, Endress introduced ClimEase and its vision for a sustainable future, detailing how the company is dedicated to supporting businesses in adopting greener practices. He passionately explained how purchasing teams can be instrumental in saving the climate by making informed, sustainable procurement decisions. Through strategic sourcing, reducing supply chain emissions, and opting for environmentally friendly products and services, purchase teams hold significant power to influence corporate environmental impact. Endress's presentation not only outlined the essential contributions of purchasing departments but also showcased ClimEase's commitment to fostering environmental sustainability through innovative solutions and strategic guidance. His talk was a call to action for businesses to harness the potential of their purchasing power to drive substantial climate action. #ClimateAction #SustainableProcurement #GlobalCarbonTax #CBAM #ClimEase #EnvironmentalSustainability

Exciting times ahead as we now have a dedicated Commissioner in the European Commission with a portfolio focused on the Circular Economy! This is a pivotal moment for Europe's journey towards sustainability, resilience, and competitiveness. The Circular Economy isn't just about protecting our planet; it's about boosting our competitiveness and ensuring a stronger, more resilient Europe. The new mandate emphasizes creating a market for secondary materials, establishing a single market for waste, and enhancing the development of sustainable products. These steps are vital to drive innovation, attract investment, and create new jobs, all while maintaining our commitment to a greener future. By aligning our environmental goals with economic incentives, we can build a circular economy that not only meets our climate and biodiversity targets but also strengthens Europe's global position as a leader in sustainable growth. I'm excited to see how this will unfold and how we, as businesses and stakeholders, can contribute to this ambitious agenda. Let's seize this opportunity to drive forward a more competitive, circular, and sustainable Europe. Wishing best of luck to Jessika Roswall in her confirmation hearings and looking forward to hear more details about this new Circular Economy Act. #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Competitiveness #EuropeanCommission #GreenDeal #Innovation #Resilience

The European Union policy cycle's agenda-setting phase is underway!🇪🇺 With so many thought leadership papers and policy memos circulating, it's easy to get overwhelmed. Let Position Green's Brussels experts, including Julia Staunig, Regitze Theill Jensen, and Ramona V., help you stay informed. ▪️ EU Environment Ministers propose a "Circular Economy Act" aimed at reducing waste. They also want to set more ambitious climate goals and improve readiness for the consequences of climate change. Binding targets on biodiversity are sorely missing from the wish list, though. ▪️ French EU Commissioner, Thierry Berton, takes a stand on combining the green transition with making Europe more economically competitive. He suggests a "green" industrial policy to make Europe fit for a carbon-neutral future. ▪️ Spotlight on the circular economy. The World Circular Economy Forum WCEF was held in Brussels last week. Experts suggest that the EU can lead globally by focusing on recycling critical raw materials and designing products that last efficiently. Additionally, a report by former Italian Prime Minister, Enrico Letta, calls for promoting circular business models to revamp the EU's internal market. ▪️ A new EU policy framework proposed to reduce the chemical industry's reliance on fossil fuels. The Netherlands, France, Czech Republic and Ireland have jointly called for accelerated decarbonisation efforts. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates like this in your feed! Great insights from the PoliticoLive debate on Europe’s Road to Sustainable Competitiveness last night! Excellent speakers, mercifully short but on point debate, engaged audience and much food for thought. My key takeaway- whether or not EU politicians dare to put ´Sustainable’ in the title of a new Industrial Deal for Europe, sustainability needs to be at the heart of it. As the panel pointed out, this isn't just about the sustainability of the planet, but also of our economic system and societies in the future. We must find ways for prosperity and the Green transition to go hand in hand. #sustainability #EU #economicprosperity #greentransition #politicoeurope

Food systems are responsible for 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet the transition to sustainable practices remains severely underfunded. To make real progress, we need $300 billion each year—$200 billion of that dedicated to climate-related initiatives. Accelerating investment is essential to driving change. Explore how the financial sector can mobilize capital and power sustainable food systems in this World Economic Forum article featuring insights from my colleagues Vikki Tam and Christian Graf. https://bit.ly/3TPNXqR
