Clinical Research Leader |🌎Dedicated to Innovative Solutions for Patient Care, Efficient Clinical Trial Management & Enhanced DEI
As promised, here is the special edition of Interim Visits solely dedicated to DEI in clinical research. ***Link to the magazine is posted in comments*** It was a delight to contribute an article for this special issue, as it focuses on a very foundational and important yet still a largely misunderstood and sidelined topic of- DEI in clinical trials participation. It's a topic that is one of my personal drivers when it comes to my contribution towards this industry..and it's not because I am a brown skinned woman..it's because I am a clinician at heart..and for me the need for diverse participation in clinical trials is logical and scientific. Efforts like these are one step in the right direction to learn and understand the scope of what it is that we have to address to truly accomplish our industry goal of “healthier future for ALL”. And every step counts when it’s a journey of a thousand miles. 👣 So, thank you Myra Fonville for your genuine efforts towards this cause..! #clinicalresearch #clinicaltrials #healthcare #healthtech #diversity #DEI #patientdiversity #patientcentricity #innovation

The culturally sensitive communications guide released by NHPCO offers alternative terms and tips for advance care planning: • Language can have an adverse impact on the recipient, especially when dealing with sensitive topics like serious illness and end-of-life care. • Culture influences how people perceive and express their values, preferences, and goals for their care. • Communication is key to building trust, rapport, and understanding with patients and families from diverse backgrounds. One can apply these insights by using the suggested terms in conversations with patients and families. #hospice #palliativecare #culturalsensitivity #healthequity #advancecareplanning
#language and #cultural sensitivity How often have you used the terms “homeless” or “bad neighborhood” or even “strike”? These words, even though delivered with good intentions - may (and do) have an adverse impact on the recipient. April is a significant month for celebrating both National Minority Health Month and Arab American Heritage Month, providing us with a unique opportunity to address health equity issues within historically minoritized communities while also honoring the rich cultural heritage of Arab Americans. It is vital that we recognize the intersectionality of these observances, committing to promote health equity for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, or cultural background. During National Minority Health Month, we acknowledge the disparities that exist in healthcare access and outcomes among historically minoritized populations and reaffirm our dedication to addressing these inequalities. We understand that factors such as socioeconomic status, language barriers, and discrimination all contribute to disparities in health — whether that pertains to access, utilization, or outcomes. Simultaneously, Arab American Heritage Month provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Arab Americans to society, healthcare, science, the arts and to recognize the importance of cultural diversity in shaping our communities. Likewise, the intersection of these months calls us to remember that issues such as stress, fear, and discrimination can also play a major role in affecting the health of many individuals, generations and communities, including the Arab American community. This is just part of why advocating for policies and initiatives that promote equitable healthcare for everyone requires us to be aware of and call attention to ongoing human rights crises. As we commemorate both National Minority Health Month and Arab American Heritage Month, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting both cultural diversity and health equity. If we work together on these efforts, we can build a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and safe life. #NationalMinorityHealthMonth #ArabAmericanHeritageMonth #HealthEquity #CulturalDiversity #Inclusion #CommunityHealth #Advocacy Image description: an indigo background with hanging Moroccan lanterns.
