It’s FAQ Friday! So, one question that always comes up around this time of year, when should I start planning my budget for 2025? Now, yes, now. It doesn't need to be a full-blown strategy unless you have the time to develop one. But you should be putting it together: What events do you know you'll be doing What content was successful this year that you can repurpose What new things do you want to add to the list At least get it started now, get those ideas and strategy on paper. Stop moving in an ad hoc way and focus on the problem you’re solving. - Ad Hoc means doing something for a specific case or situation at hand, and for no other. - It’s OK to do things ad hoc sometimes, but not too many. ** A note to anybody that is frustrated that they’re not where they want to be. ** I had a text message yesterday. It was from an old client that I haven’t spoken to in many years. He sent me the below image as a ‘Thursday Throwback’. It was an invoice that he had found from 2014 where I was charging him £12.00 per hour for 8 hours of marketing planning/work. (About $15/hour). I remember the time clearly. I was practicing my craft. I was studying books/courses. I was trying to apply theory to practical. I was trying to win the trust of others (while not fully believing in myself). I was still living with my mum. I made mistake after mistake during that time. Things I still cringe about. Yet skip 10 years forward to today, and I’m sat here putting the finishing touches to a ‘Marketing Masterclass’ presentation that I’ll be delivering to 25 of the world’s best private practice leaders in New York City on Thursday at our annual member event. Life feels very different. But the work I’m able to do today and many of the joys of my life are ALL because I took the slow steps in the early days. Although LinkedIn and Instagram give the impression that everybody is so far ahead of you and they have it easy, please know that these early days cannot be skipped (and it often bites the people in the arse that try to skip them!). Take your time and focus on being worth more (not trying to just charge more). (Sorry if this felt like a cringe motivational type post – it just struck me hard seeing this old invoice and reflecting on the past decade!).
