Having recently been at 9th International Symposium on Metallomics (ISM9), we were interested to see this paper published last month showing a novel peptide-coated gold nanocluster that specifically targets connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) that is an upstream regulator of ß-amyloid plaques known to be involved in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). It is hoped that this could serve as an earlier diagnostic tool using non-invasive NIR-II imaging, but it can also be used for post-mortem multi-modal imaging, including by LA-ICP-TOF-MS. In this Nature Communications paper, a group from Beijing University of Technology used a Teledyne Photon Machines IRIDIA laser system and an TOFWERK icpTOF to perform post-mortem imaging of the CTGF via gold and correlate the data with Fluorescence Imaging.
