4-hour batteries connected at 11kV are coming! We're thrilled to announce we will soon begin construction on several long duration battery projects which will allow renewable energy to be stored for up to four hours, significantly longer than most storage solutions currently available in the UK. Backed by a £45 million debt facility from Allianz Global Investors our Urban Reserve Storage business will build 90MWh of electricity storage across four projects, utilising the cutting-edge high energy density lithium-ion cells from BYD Energy Storage. These batteries, connected at 11kV and in urban areas where network pressures are greatest, will ensure electricity is readily available when and where it's most needed, particularly during peak times. Increasing our energy storage capacity is crucial as we shift towards a smarter energy future. 7moThat's great but sadly only a small a drop in a big ocean. Power systems need 200 hour storage projects to make intermittent renewables viable as the major share of generation.
