Representatives from Australian Vanadium Limited attended the Energy and Mines Australia Summit this week, where the theme was “The Decarbonised Mine” and a series of engaging presentations and panel talks were held over the two-day program. It is clear from the discussions that decarbonisation for each mining project looks different, based on their size, location, mine life, mining methods (underground/open pit) together with individual companies’ corporate strategies and decarbonisation targets. Whilst implementation of renewable energy sources at the project site (e.g., solar and wind, coupled with battery storage) and electrification of mobile fleet are the prevailing decarbonisation strategies explored, many presenters encouraged miners to look beyond these “shiny objects” and evaluate energy efficiency initiatives on their sites and do their analysis on capex spend on decarbonisation projects versus actual carbon savings, especially in the current competitive financing environment. A panel discussion on the topic “Realising a Sustainable Australian Battery Metals Supply Chain” was also held, with participants from lithium and nickel companies, where panellists explored the potential of midstream and downstream processing of battery metals in Australia. For Australian Vanadium, we are excited to be part of a vertical supply chain where we will develop vanadium resources from the deposit right through to processing into vanadium electrolyte for deployment into vanadium flow batteries, all here in Australia. Our decarbonisation journey has already started in the design of our mining and refining project in the Mid West of WA, but it will go on infinitely in its encapsulation as vanadium flow batteries – helping Australia decarbonise as a long duration energy storage solution. #vanadium $AVL #VFB #EnergyandMines #decarbonisation
