🛰 Successstories 🚀 New EU-solid lubricating material for bearings by Ensinger Sintimid GmbH under assistance from Aerospace & Advanced Composites GmbH: TECASINT_8591 Bearings can be equipped only with a cage made of the new PTFE-based material (internal material codes "Cxx"). The GSTP-project “SLPMC2” could be finalised successfully in 2020. Long term ball bearing tests show promisingly low torque of less than 1mNm, which is even lower than for competitive materials. These promising results were derived on a lab-scale process. Within the De-Risk activity “A3Lub-Phase2” the manufacturing process was transferred to the commercial production by Ensinger Sintimid GmbH. Following an extensive testing campaign at AAC, the successful validation of the material was confirmed by ESA in 2023. The material can now be purchased as “TECASINT_8591” from Ensinger Sintimid GmbH. #TECASINT #spaceindustry #spacetechnology

We are delighted to announce that the #ESENSE project with the title “Out of autoclave self-heated tooling enabling temperature homogeneity and embedded graphene sensors” has been successfully completed 🎉 The project aimed to bring to the market a more versatile and less costly, #selfheated #outofautoclave #tooling solution with multiple #heatingzones and #advancedthermalmanagement in order to eliminate the need for costly and energy-intensive autoclaves. The effort focused on the development of tooling able to achieve temperature homogeneity for the manufacturing of complex shapes of #thermoset #composite parts for the #aerospace industry. The #ESENSE consortium includes ATLAS Composite Technologies, HAYDALE COMPOSITE SOLUTIONS LIMITED, ADVISE-DETA LIMITED, Energy Carbon , HAYDALE LIMITED, TWI and Brunel Composites Centre (BCC), Brunel University London. Without mechanical stability, a solid catalyst or adsorbent cannot be implemented in an industrial reactor. In a recent study, suitable pelletization conditions for a fragile mesoporous material were investigated, rationalizing its degradation at high pressure through advanced characterization and Monte Carlo simulations. Surprisingly, the BET area remains constant despite significant changes, attributed to opposing effects. Our #engineers in the spotlight: How can #steel components for the #aerospace industry be treated so that they do not deform? 🤔 ➡️ Hannes Birkhofer, Process Specialist Heat Treatment at Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg (Germany), examined this topic. The object of his research: a thin-walled gear in a geared rotary actuator that moves the flaps on the #wings of an #airplane. The steel from which the gear wheel is made was heated and quenched during the production process to obtain optimal mechanical properties. But could the hot steel be cooled using air instead of oil to improve process control? Numerous #simulations and experiments later, it was clear that slower #cooling by means of air results in less distortion of the component. 📢 Hannes presented the results of his research at the 5th International Conference on Thermal Process Modeling and Simulation (TPMS-5) in Lecce (Italy), organized by the Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia. The study was part of a #BMWK research project (Grant number FKZ 20Y2101A). ✔️ "It was a great opportunity to talk about this topic at ICTPMS," says Hannes. "We at Liebherr-Aerospace are constantly working on improving our processes and methods. It shows a good agreement with experiments 🧪. 📰 https://lnkd.in/exkPW_xd 🔎 Some extracts : “Liquid propulsion stages require almost constant propellant tank pressure to maintain desired propellant flow into engines and to provide a positive pump suction head to avoid cavitation.” “First rough regulator regulates high pressure GHe stored in gas bottle to intermediate pressure and then precision second regulator regulates to final required tank pressure.” “A non-linear dynamic mathematical model of pressure regulator is required for predicting the performance in the specified working conditions with respect to initial transients, temperature effects, variation in input/ output conditions, inherent oscillations etc.” “To validate the model, lab test was conducted on same hardware and model results are compared with lab test results.” ✔️ Some outcomes: “Comparison of simulation results with actual hardware test results shows a close match during the transients and in steady phase.” “O-ring design, clearances between sliding pairs, surface finish condition of all sliding elements, geometrical parameters to ensure alignment, guidance of moving elements etc. were rechecked and it was understood that there is a design marginality in spring guidance.” “To confirm the model results and dimensional analysis results, CT scan of hardware in assembled condition was carried out and it was found that spring OD is touching the spring room ID creating the movement restriction and leading to non-smooth movement of sliding elements.” “From study, it is concluded that additional momentary friction during the regulator movement can cause sudden dips or roughness in regulator outlet pressure which once relieved can manifest in kink.” #Simcenter #SystemSimulation #Amesim #aerospace #aeropsaceengineering #propulsionsystems #space #pressureregulator #pneumatics #gas #helium #digitaltwin #EngineerInnovation
