The Week of Solidarity with Self-Governing Territories is observed annually from May 25 to 31 since 1999. This week is dedicated to supporting and recognizing the struggles of peoples in non-self-governing territories around the world, particularly in their pursuit of independence, self-determination, and human rights. Some of the self-governing territories include: - Western Sahara - Palestine - Gibraltar - Falkland Islands (Malvinas) - Guam - U.S. Virgin Islands - American Samoa - Puerto Rico - U.S. Minor Outlying Islands.

I have no idea why we- the civilized world- give two shits about the United Nations and some idiotic 'Decolonization Committee'. Why do we have to sit there and make nice with buffoons, fascists, communists, cannibals, and warlords, who have run their own countries into the ground? The Falklands are one of a tiny handful of First World democracies which exist in an enormous area of the globe, an area which includes the continents of Africa and South America, but which is otherwise completely characterised by failed states, dictatorships, corruption, and poverty. On the other hand, Ascension Island, South Georgia, South Sandwich, Saint Helena, and Tristan da Cunha are the other prosperous and free democracies in this colossal chunk of the earth- and incidentally, they are British dependent territories as well. Roughly, the nearest other First World democracy to *both* the west AND east of the Falklands is Australia (think about that- think about how far you would have to travel to land in a safe and stable nation), the nearest to to the north is Barbados, and the nearest to the south is either Denmark (in Greenland) or Canada. (And here's a Fun Fact for you- Canada, Australia, and Barbados are products of British colonialism, and Greenland IS a Danish colony- yet each of these places is far preferable to any country who sits at the Decolonization Committee...) No African nor South American state, despite being closer geographically to the Falklands, can match the overall quality of life, safety, prosperity, and freedom long enjoyed by these islands......so, to paraphrase General Jeremy Moore, let them remain 'under the government desired by their inhabitants. God Save the King.' 📣 One of the most important activities led by Support Action Center last year, 2023, was opening a dialogue channel between political peace activists from #Russia and #Ukraine . We can proudly say that this is the first peaceful activity between the two fronts. It was led by Dr. Thair Ismail, the president of the center. Only political activists known and trusted for their desire for peace were invited. 📌Check out our article to know more: 👇 https://lnkd.in/dcs_2cjF #PeaceMaking #peace #dialogue

It is a sad time for our young democracy. I, Jerome Paul Opperman strongly condone this act being signed into power. The notion that Parliament's support for the Expropriation Bill is a testament to upholding constitutionalism by resisting state confiscation of property is deeply concerning. This approach risks further dividing our nation and goes against the principles of unity and inclusivity that we strive for as a Rainbow Nation. We cannot condone the idea of forcibly taking what rightfully belongs to individuals or communities. Such actions sow seeds of discord and undermine the very fabric of our society. Let us not forget the lessons of our past and the painful divisions it caused. Instead of dwelling on past grievances, let us focus on building a future where all South Africans can prosper. This entails fostering a climate of mutual respect, dialogue, and collaboration. Only through peaceful and inclusive means can we pave the way for a brighter tomorrow, one where the rights and aspirations of every citizen are safeguarded for generations to come.

The coming months present a critical opportunity for the U.S. administration to act as a genuine broker for peace in the Middle East, particularly in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the election approaches, the current administration can either continue the status quo or take bold steps toward justice and peace. Supporting Palestinian human rights, including the right to self-determination and an end to the occupation, would be a powerful stance for long-term peace. A just solution isn’t only about regional stability but about affirming values of equality, freedom, and dignity for all. By acknowledging the disproportionate suffering of Palestinians and addressing the power imbalance head-on, the administration can foster meaningful dialogue and lay the foundation for sustainable peace. The time for action is now—before political agendas overshadow the pursuit of justice. The world is watching, and so are the voters. #MiddleEast #Palestine #Peace #HumanRights #USPolicy

“Starting in 2022, attention [to the situation in Crimea] has increased significantly, and the international community began drawing parallels with what was happening in the newly occupied territories… [Realising that occupation] happens simply because the occupying state wants to and feels the power to do it and feels impunity for what it can do.” - Kateryna Petrova What strategies are most crucial for advancing #humanrights in #Crimea? What can individuals and organisations outside of #Ukraine do? Read our interview with WHRDs from Human Rights House Crimea member organisations CCE "Almenda", ZMINA Human Rights Centre, Regional Centre for Human Rights, and Crimean Human Rights Group where they talk about the situation with human rights in Crimea, how the occupation of the peninsula is connected to the full-scale Russia’s war in Ukraine and security in the Black Sea region, as well as the importance of Crimea Platform and international advocacy.

The United Kingdom is the canary in the coalmine of multiculturalism. After decades of celebrating diversity and pushing aggressively for DEI, the violence of the Pro-Palestine movement has inspired unprecedented calls for reversing these policies. Far from protecting and advancing the rights of minorities, progressive intransigence has helped give fuel to powerful right wing actors who can now (rightly) demand an end to these policies, and (more dangerously) call for rebuilding the West into White/ Christian nations. Minorities in the West are far more insecure now because of the Progressive/ Left's pro-immigration, pro-diversity policies, though I don't expect these groups to change. https://lnkd.in/gnw6ENe5

On this International Day of Peace, the theme "Cultivating a Culture of Peace" is more important than ever. At RefuSHE, we’re committed to fostering harmony between #refugees and #hostcommunities, especially in informal settlements where we serve those displaced . Forced displacement often sparks conflict over limited resources and services, but through our partnership with @GIZKenya, we’re in the process of initiating dialogues to help communities resolve disputes peacefully and find mutually beneficial solutions. 🤝💬 Together, we can build a future rooted in peace. #InternationalDayOfPeace #WithRefuSHE #CultivatingPeace

"The pursuit of peace is a universal aspiration among humanitarians worldwide. Leaders, activists, and organizations across nations tirelessly champion the cause of peace and strive to put an end to conflict. The month of August is a time to celebrate peace, reflect back on lessons learned from times of war, and reevaluate what it means to have peace among us. Originally founded on August 16, 1926, at the Democratic Peace Conference in Germany, August became International Peace Month as a time to reflect specifically on the First World War." 𝘕𝑒𝘸 𝘗𝑖𝘦𝑐𝘦 :𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 The United Nations (UN) defines peace as "a situation where there is respect for human rights and dignity, the rule of law, good governance, social and economic development, and environmental sustainability." This alone gives us clarity on the fact that when we talk of peace it means more than just the mere state of tranquility and the absence of hostilities. In this article, I shared insights on what peace means beyond no conflicts and China's role in Africa's peace building.
