AMSOL - African Marine Solutions Group’s Post

The team onboard the AMSOL tanker 'Isiqalo' really stepped up to the challenge of sharing their Top Tips for Safety and Captain John Williams, Officers & Crew offer some great advice to make the maritime workplace safer: 1. Avoid Multitasking - This often leads to mistakes being made and its easier and safer to focus on one task. 2. Familiarization – Do not be afraid to say you don’t know or you have forgotten. It is safer to relearn machinery or procedures than to attempt something with doubt. 3. Planning – Inter-departmental planning is important to avoid conflict of tasks being carried carried out. 4. STOP THE JOB - If factors change or working conditions change, halt and re assess the task being carried out for safety reasons. 5. Communication - Always have access to someone to ask for help or for a second opinion. Make sure you are in communication with your Supervisor when working alone in an area. On Tuesday 25 June we will celebrate the 'Day of the Seafarer'. In support of this year's theme, AMSOL's Safer Together campaign highlights the importance of teamwork in achieving the goal of Zero Harm. #SaferTogether #DayoftheSeafarer #SafetyTipsatSea International Maritime Organization South African Maritime Safety Authority
