Our #AmstarVolunteers in #CostaRica engaged in a variety of fun activities with the children of the World Vision project in Guanacaste during Hyatt Hotels Corporation Global Month of Service. Approximately 300 children and teenagers now look forward to attending various classes and programs available to them at the World Vision Guanacaste 'Club House.' These at-risk youth have the opportunity to develop and expand their dreams by participating in a variety of classes & workshops including computers, art, and language lessons, in a safe environment otherwise not available to them in their neighborhoods and nearby towns. 🎨💻 THANK YOU, to all our colleagues who participated in this special activity! Your dedication and commitment to your community is inspiring. ✨💙 #HyattWorldOfCare #HyattGMOS

I am proud of the University of Papua New Guinea, Central Students Union for Reviving their Beauty Pageant Night. This is the first since pre covid. Imagine these youths not only preserving culture but are actively learning important social skills while keeping culture alive. From the 5 Districts of Hiri- Koiari, Rigo, Abau, Goilala and Kairuku. Presenting 1025 Wards from the 77 Local-Level Governments (LLGs). While Papua New Guinea as a whole is the most linguistically diverse country in the world with over 800 languages spoken, the exact number of languages in Central Province is not definitively known. There are over 200 languages spoken in Central Province, Papua New Guinea. The province is home to a diverse array of indigenous languages, with Hiri Motu serving as a stronger lingua franca. This event will be celebrated with; 1. Peroveta The singing of Peroveta is a significant influence in the church within Central society due to several key factors: it is a result of its integration into local culture, missionary efforts, educational benefits, community engagement, and its ability to adapt to changing social dynamics. 2. String band The evolution of string bands in Central Province demonstrates their adaptability and the way they have become an integral part of the region's musical heritage, blending traditional and modern elements to create a unique and vibrant musical culture. 3. Beauty Pageant A competition that traditionally focuses on judging and ranking contestants based on their physical attributes. However, this pageant includes criteria such as personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement. One more sleep.

As we gear up to celebrate the festival of colors, let's take a moment to reflect on the deeper significance of Holi and the invaluable lessons it teaches our children. For kids, Holi is a chance to learn about where they come from and why our festivals are special. It's about our culture and bringing people together. It's a chance to show our kids our traditions and why they're important. Here's why Holi is important for our children: 1️⃣ Learning about Culture: Holi teaches kids about our rich culture, the stories behind it, and why it's special. It helps them appreciate where they come from. 2️⃣ Family Time: Holi brings families closer. It's a time for kids to make memories with their loved ones and learn the value of family. 3️⃣ Life Lessons: Holi teaches important lessons like forgiveness and inclusivity. By playing together and celebrating, kids learn to be kind and accepting. 4️⃣ Community Spirit: Holi is a time for communities to come together. It shows kids the importance of being part of a community and helping each other. 5️⃣ Celebrating Differences: Holi celebrates diversity. It teaches kids to respect people from different backgrounds and cultures. Let's use Holi as a way to teach our kids these important lessons. Let's make it a colorful celebration filled with love and happiness. Happy Holi to you and your family! 🌈✨ #Bumblebee #Parenting #Learning #Holi2024 #Hyderabad

Serena and I had a light conversation about my experience volunteering as a guide for our Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK). Our conversation led to us discussing what sort of “legacy” we would like to leave behind for our children. My thoughts about leaving behind a “legacy” is not purely based on passing down “heavy” assets but rather to create a long-lasting impact on my children core values. So I came to a conscious decision to gift this piece of Chinese calligraphy to them, and I hoped that they will appreciate the meaning behind these two Chinese characters 诚毅 (Sincerity and Perseverance). This is a simple philosophy to read and remember. But to me, it’s a lifelong belief and commitment to practice. Like everyone else, my children will grow up and enjoy a “life” package bundled with matters relating to bread and butter and interpersonal relationships. The day will arrive for them to leave their safe environment and to adjust on their own. As parents, we can only handhold them to a certain stage before leaving them to explore their own ground. No one will be obliged to act and think on their behalf. If there’s any lesson more practical and powerful in life, it’s dealing with life itself. The calligraphy is only a physical form, but my wish is that they will remember it by heart. Live their life well by moulding their own characters, values, and minds. And when they face their darkest days and life dilemmas, the philosophy will inspire them, allow them to draw strength and courage in their decisions. Special thanks to 陈亮老师 for the artwork. *诚毅 - 以诚待人, 以毅处事 The school motto set by Mr Tan Kah Kee for all Hokkien Huay Kuan schools.

In the educational journey, the richness of diverse cultures and festivities offers a unique pathway to embrace knowledge, art, and wisdom. Encouraging students to explore various cultures broadens their global perspective. Integrate diverse cultural narratives into the curriculum, providing a holistic understanding of the world's tapestry. Utilize cultural festivals as educational opportunities. Delve into the historical and cultural significance of festivals, allowing students to connect with traditions and rituals from around the world. This approach not only imparts knowledge but also promotes a sense of appreciation for cultural diversity. Organize interactive sessions where students actively participate in cultural activities and festivities. This hands-on approach enhances their understanding and fosters a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of diverse cultural practices. This not only enriches the educational experience but also equips students with a global perspective and the cultural intelligence needed to thrive in an interconnected world. #diversity #culturalawareness #education

🤟Building Rural Revitalization Through Community Engagement Prof. Thomas Chung and his team were granted S-KPF funding in 2023 to establish Countryside Curators, a social enterprise focused on rural rehabilitation. Their holistic approach reconnects cities and villages through collaborative conservation. After restoring historic structures in Mui Tsz Lam, empowering residents and students became restoration ambassadors. Their "Living Heritage Hall" showcase increased cultural appreciation 🤓. In Kuk Po, renovating the abandoned Yeung House into an education base sparked multigenerational dialogue. Residents now guide Eco-Tours, passing skills to new conservation champions 🥾. Continuous learning is key. Countryside Curators works closely with schools, equipping future leaders with field experiences. Their upcoming Kuk Po VR tour boosts accessibility 🌐. Social impact takes perseverance. By nurturing grassroots partnerships, Prof. Chung revives neglected areas through community spirit alone. S-KPF plays a vital role empowering such meaningful projects. Their work proves conservation is not just restoration, but relationship building. Only by understanding diverse cultural landscapes can we sustain local heritage for generations to come. #SocialInnovation #SKPF #CUHK #CountrysideCurators #FromValleytoPlain #CountrysideConservation #GoodHealthAndWellbeing #QualityEducation #ReducedInequalities #SustainableCitiesAndCommunities #CulturalAndHeritage
