Sustainability is a critical focus for the F&B industry, driven by increasing concerns about climate change and the need for more resilient supply chains. Some of the key aspects involved in creating a sustainability plan for F&B companies: 1) Reducing Waste and Pollution: F&B companies must actively work to minimize waste and cut pollution and emissions. This includes efficient waste management practices thru recycling, and responsible disposal of byproducts. 2) Environmental Impact & insight : Lowering the environmental impact is crucial. Companies can achieve this by using eco-friendly processes, sustainable packaging, and energy-efficient practices. Additionally, they should prioritize sourcing ingredients that have a minimal environmental footprint. But doesn’t mean it is cheap. Example like biodegradable item. 3) Employee Safety and Health: Always ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for employees is a part of sustainability. Co. should invest in safety measures, employee training, and well-being programs of the Green Initiative. 4) Energy and Water Conservation: F&B businesses can contribute to sustainability by reducing energy consumption and optimizing water usage. Implementing energy-efficient equipment and water-saving practices is essential. Utilization of central kitchen to prepare food with automation systematic control on the usage of energy and water conservation. 5) Regenerative Agriculture: Beyond passive sustainability, co. can actively improve ecosystems through regenerative agriculture. Recently I come across an article about F&B giant Nestlé plans to invest $1.3 billion over the next 5 years to support a regenerative food system across its global supply chain. The Transparency of the Supply Chain need to be transparent with consumers and commit to researching supply chain partners upstream and downstream. This transparency builds trust and demonstrates commitment to sustainability. My view F&B companies must prioritize sustainability by addressing waste reduction, environmental impact, employee well-being, and sourcing practices.
