In the belly, planting seeds The festivals of Imbolg and Saint Brigid's Day are technically different days. Imbolg (sometimes Imbolc) is the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. That means that it can move from February 1st to February 2nd, while the festival of St. Brigid is always February 1st. The name Imbolg seems to come from the term "in the belly". The idea is that as the weather is supposed to get warmer (looks outside and shouts "supposed"), the rams get frisky and most of the sheep will be on the way to getting lambs soon. This might be why St Brigid's Day is a traditional seed planting day. Around this time of year our #SportBroadcast post-grad students, from the outgoing cohort, start releasing their final project documentaries to the public. We ask them to make a 15minute sports documentary for their dissertation, and once they’ve handed in their films & had them marked, we encourage them to post their films on you tube, to put themselves & their work out there. The documentary they produce is hopefully (if they’ve been concentrating!) a culmination of all their skills learnt on the course; filming, gathering & organising content, video editing, storyboarding, storytelling, researching, fixing contributors, interviewing, sourcing archive, choosing locations, lighting, creating graphics, writing scripts, editing sound & working to a duration & a deadline. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing student work on here. Please take a look if you’ve time, and, if you like the films, let the students know, give them feedback; positive, negative, constructive. They need it. Be gentle, this is the first piece of long form content they have ever created. They are at the start of their careers, they are looking for work. Talking of work, my work is done, they are all yours now!
As part of the final act in my MSc studies, I had to produce a short form sports documentary to showcase all I had learned within my studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I’m pleased to say that piece is here, it’s called “Dragons In Exile” and I’m already thrilled hearing about how those within the club, and fans of it, are enjoying watching. This project has been a labour of love, with a personal connection to this historic outfit, I always wanted to do this justice. I wouldn’t be at this point to begin with if it wasn’t for Joe Towns first admitting me onto his course. I owe a lot of what my ability now is to him and the amazing team at Cardiff Met. A special thanks to Jamie Hicks, Ado, Rhys, Steffan Garrero, Caoimhe Hennigan, and all the staff at Cardiff Met for supporting me in my studies and this doc. Thanks to London Welsh Rugby Club for letting me produce this piece. For all my participants who spoke on camera so passionately, Cai Griffiths. And to Haydn Parry for helping to organise filming locations at the club and kickstarting my journey after my undergrad. I’d love to hear what you think about this piece! For #health and #happiness, I am happy to share my second #ballet for the #NewYear2024! It is a #fairytale ballet, based on our visit with Lloyd Williams to Kensington Gardens, London, UK. I created and #choreographed this ballet myself to the beautiful #music by Edward Elgar 'Enigma Variations", No. VIII Allegretto, W.N. In 2023 I danced this ballet as a pink rose without #pointeshoes. What better way to #dream and explore what your #heart and #soul desire than with fairytale ballet? #Children #play and in playing they discover their future. As a three year old girl I was playing that I am writing my #PhD #thesis about the #microbes flying in the room, when ill and isolated in my room, because my parents were writing their PhD thesis. Little did I know that I would defend my PhD thesis in #Microbiology and #Immunology. Later, when I was searching for a job and hadn't even met Lloyd, I wrote in my journal that we are visit England and London, UK in the form of a letter to my Mom. It just felt so natural and real. What I wrote happened 6 years later. Indeed! My question is, when people play and #imagine, do they see into the future, or do they attract the things they dream about with their #thoughts, #will and #imagination? Does it matter if your dreams come true! Is Your sports mission aligned with your own inherent capacities & desires to Preserve Tradition or Blaze New Trails? Think about Ice Cube - I find him just irresistibly attractive as a cultural challenger & innovator & when I grow up I want to be like Ice. Village life is one of the options we have. ✓ To sit under a neem tree and listen to the stories. ✓ When it rains, to make paper boats ................... to make paper aeroplanes There are many more things which give us immense pleasure absolutely from our inside and these are the best ones even in today's time when we feel unrest and to maintain our balance again.
