When we started Andela in 2014 in Lagos, Nigeria, it quickly became clear that there was appetite for our mission: brilliant individuals wanted the opportunity to use their skills on a global scale, and companies needed a way to reduce complexity and increase trust in international hiring. Over the past decade, Andela has grown from a crazy idea into a global community of over five million technologists, connecting the best and brightest talent from Africa and beyond with leading companies worldwide. Whether in Lagos, Nairobi, Bangalore, São Paulo, or in any of the 135 countries that we now represent, unleashing the energy and talent of Andelans has always been our animating force.    Global hiring has since become the norm, and Andela is proud to have played a role in this shift: from training more than 15% of the software developer population across Africa, to becoming the first talent marketplace to achieve unicorn status, it’s been an incredible ride.      After ten years and some deep reflection, I decided that now is the right time for me to pass the baton to an extraordinary leader who can leverage our vibrant legacy and chart the path forward into our next chapter. My successor, and Andela’s next CEO, Carrol Chang, is an exceptional human being.   As the Global Head of Driver and Courier Operations of Uber, Carrol successfully scaled a marketplace business while ensuring she stayed true to her passion for fostering global opportunity. Andela has built a strong foundation from which Carrol will scale the company. We possess the largest reach of any private talent network and have the most robust enterprise customer base. Further, our product is the most enterprise ready AI-powered hiring platform in the industry and getting better by the week.    Under Carrol, Andela will continue to break down the barriers that prevent talent and opportunity from connecting. We will continue to facilitate the world’s most forward-looking organizations to deliver digital transformations by building and managing world-class engineering teams.    Andela is my life’s work, so I won’t be going far. I will continue to serve on Andela’s board of directors and support Carrol and the team as they scale our impact. I also make this move knowing the spirit of Andela is stronger than ever (TIA). I am confident that Carrol and the exceptional team at Andela will carry this mission forward, driving innovation and excellence in global hiring. A special thanks to our incredible leadership team and to the uniquely gifted Andelans over the years who helped navigate countless twists and turns. I'm honored to have served with each of you. And thanks as well to our board and early investors whose support made this crazy journey possible.

Andela CEO Jeremy Johnson Steps Down, Carrol Chang from Uber Takes Over Andela has announced a leadership change with co-founder and CEO Jeremy Johnson stepping down. Carrol Chang, former Global Head of Driver and Courier Operations at Uber, will take over as CEO effective September 17, 2024. Johnson will remain on Andela's Board of Directors. Chang is expected to bring extensive experience in scaling tech marketplaces, positioning her well to lead Andela into its next phase of growth. A year ago this week, I packed up my life and hit the road, cruising cross-country in my older (but still kickin’) F150, hauling a U-Haul from San Francisco all the way to Huntsville. Yup, four days, 24 hours of driving, and one blissful stop in Colorado later, I made it. That truck? She’s old but fierce—just like me. Now, don’t let anyone fool you, life is no fairy tale. Seems like some CEOs are getting wrong what counts as a success. Spending 2X of company revenues on private jets is outrageous. Was he thinking about the investors? What about the employees? And why did he think that private jets are a good marketing publicity? I worked for a CEO who build a successful company and flew coach - Gerry Cohen. And whenever other CEOs bragged about their private jets, he humbly stated that he traveled coach.
