Externally: Everything is the best! Up and to the right, hiring, releasing, added big new customer. Internally: Everything is broken, we don’t know how to fix half of it, and the other half is taking too long. Truth: Both.

My first sales job was at Interwoven, the fastest growing software company in Silicon Valley at the time. I wasn’t actually looking for a job. But I bumped into a friend at a Giants game who talked me into applying because he would get a $3K referral bonus. My title was “Corporate Sales Rep.” I was cold calling, cold emailing, and faxing (yup, circa 2000). I loved it: the energy, my peers, the mentorship, and just the chance to be part of a team professionally. I learned some valuable lessons at this first job: 1. The more work you do, the better off you’ll be. 2. Being prepared, having a system, and being organized makes you a little bit better than everyone else. 3. Making connections with people is more than just asking about the weather in their city. For others who are just starting out, or are in the midst of their own professional journey, I’ve found the most impactful opportunities often come from the most unexpected places. Seeing Value 📈 not only is business on the rise but I can see and hear the value of the work I do each day make an impact! As someone who is driven by data (and a little bit of praise 😉) having the level of transparency and connection with our customers means a lot! 2. Woah what a team! 😍😍 I’m not just saying this. The people I work with are some of my favorite humans. The banter🤌 😝… the collaboration 🙌… the thoughtfulness 🥰 (ask me about the story that of the moment I realized Loop was a great fit for me 👀) 3. The challenge 💪🏼 don’t be fooled by thinking you understand what it means to return a package! The reverse logistics world is vast and complex. There are lots of problems to be solved, lots of connections to be made, and a market that only continues to grow. 🔥🔥The work isn’t easy but IS doable!! Huge thanks to Gideon, Jared, and Jason for adding your expertise, panache, and passion to our sales function! You could have worked anywhere, but you chose Goodlawyer. We are lucky to have you. I really mean that. But this post is about all the OTHER applicants 🌟 I was overwhelmed by the amount of interest we got. The application process at Goodlawyer isn’t easy. There’s a screening process, then a skill interview, then a skill test, then a culture interview, then we check references. Some applicants went through this entire process twice (!) because they had the potential to fill multiple roles. There were so many talented, hardworking people who applied that we could have filled a dozen of roles. We appreciate your interest and your effort. Every minute of it. Scoreboard for hiring internally helped us drastically. For example If you are looking for 5 things in a candidate write them all down. 1. Sales 2. Tech Savvy 3. Construction Management Background 4. Ability to travel 5. Cultural Fit If 3/5 out non-negational then set that as a standard. If they meet those non-negational ones and have 4/5 things then move forward with them Before moving forward with them. Make sure you decide as a team. Give this a try.
