Investing in the Future: Supporting Schools & Young People in Climate Action I’ve always believed that real change starts with education, which is why I’m incredibly proud to have supported and championed our partnership with the Green Schools Project - an initiative that is equipping young people with the knowledge and tools to take meaningful action on climate change. With the full backing of Direct Business Group, we’ve been able to align our expertise with the incredible work that Green Schools Project is doing. Their 2023-24 Impact Report highlights just how powerful this initiative is: Over 150 schools embedding sustainability into everyday learning, ensuring climate action is part of the curriculum. Thousands of students taking the lead on real projects - whether it’s reducing waste, improving biodiversity, or running energy audits. Schools making tangible progress in cutting emissions, reducing energy waste, and adopting more sustainable practices across everything from food sourcing to equipment procurement. What makes this initiative so important is that it goes beyond just teaching - it empowers students to act. It’s about embedding sustainability into the way schools operate, from the energy they use to the food they serve, and ensuring young people leave education with the mindset and skills to build a more sustainable future. This partnership isn’t just a project - it’s a movement, and I’m excited to see how we can take this even further, supporting schools in finding practical solutions to real sustainability challenges. So here’s the question - how do we ensure that sustainability becomes the norm in schools, not just an initiative? What role should businesses, educators, and policymakers play in making that happen? I’d love to hear your thoughts. #Sustainability #ClimateEducation #GreenSchools #ChampioningChange #SustainableFuture #NetZero Direct Business Group Green Schools Project Tom Hague

🌎🏫 It was a pleasure to join the conversation as a panelist at the Education Estates Net Zero Conference at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on pathways to achieving net zero in the education estate. 💡Action is paramount. Prioritising the performance of our school buildings ensures energy efficiency, reduces carbon emissions, and lowers operational costs, creating healthier learning environments that enhance student well-being and performance. 📍Schools can lead by example, showcasing the benefits of energy-efficient buildings and inspiring other communities to follow suit. 💡Innovative finance models are key to making this transformation feasible. By leveraging new funding mechanisms, we can overcome budget constraints and invest in the sustainable infrastructure our schools need. 📌 Integrating sustainability into our schools teaches students environmental stewardship and prepares them to address future challenges. As community hubs, schools can drive local adoption of sustainable building practices, amplifying the impact beyond the school gates. It's time to move beyond discussion and embrace tangible actions that enhance the performance of our school buildings, paving the way for a sustainable future. It is a privilege to be part of such a brilliant team working to drive this action! The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth. A quote by Chief Seattle that perfectly encompasses the essence & importance of environmental education. Our world is facing an environmental crisis. From climate change, deforestation , scarcity of drinking water, to air pollution - the signs cannot be denied. But what's our best tool in counteracting these dilemmas? #Environmentaleducation. 🌿 Here's why: 🌍 It makes us more Environmentally Literate: The more we understand about our environment and the issues it faces, the more capable we are in participating as informed citizens, guiding the actions and decisions that shape our planet's destiny. 🌍 Instills a Sense of Urgency & Responsibility: Environmental lessons bring real-world concerns into classrooms, sparking empathy, concern & responsibility towards our environment. It transforms students from spectators to advocates for a sustainable world. 🌍 It Fosters Innovation: From designing eco-friendly buildings to creating renewable energy solutions, environmental education encourages innovative thinking to tackle real-world challenges. 🌍 Encourages Healthy Lifestyle: Educating about the environment can encourage a “green” lifestyle. Its influence penetrates beyond classrooms, inspiring sustainable habits such as recycling and conservation. 🌍 Boosts Academic Performance: Studies indicate that environment-based education can significantly increase student engagement, improve academic performance, and reduce discipline problems. Quality knowledge and widespread consciousness cannot be underestimated. Every individual equipped with environmental literacy becomes a steward of sustainability, advocating for conscious decisions that prioritize the health of our planet over short-term profits. Be the change you wish to see🌏. Let's commit to #Environmentaleducation, and equip younger generations with the knowledge and perspectives necessary to make the world a more sustainable place. Are you part of this movement? Share your stories and ideas on how we can further contribute to environmental education. Let's learn from one another, because the key to a greener planet is #SharedKnowledge.

𝐀 𝟏𝟗-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫-𝐎𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭'𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬: 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 I had a really insightful conversation at my university, Sunway University, with a 19-year-old student who shared his concerns about climate change and its impact on his future. He asked, What can we do as individuals? I said our strength lies in community because individual efforts, though important, are not enough. To spark the formation of communities, our conversations with friends, family, and even romantic partners need to change. Instead of only discussing movies, restaurants, or malls, let’s start asking bigger questions: How can we ensure everyone has access to water, food, and housing in the future? What small steps can we take in our homes or neighborhoods to help? Talking about these things is the first step toward finding community-level solutions. Small actions we students can take: Visit community projects: Spend your free time exploring nearby community initiatives to learn what they’re doing and how they’re organizing for sustainable living. Read: Stay informed by reading simple, easy-to-understand articles about the effects of climate change on people and communities. Volunteer with local NGOs: Work with organizations addressing environmental issues, clean-ups, or community projects. This hands-on experience is invaluable for learning and creating tangible impacts. Organize roundtable discussions: Set up weekly discussions with friends or classmates to share ideas and solutions. Focus your assignments and projects on sustainable living inspired by real-world examples. What other actions we students can take? 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬!
