You are what you post on LinkedIn. Brent Orsuga had a good post today. It got me thinking, my audience is mainly sales reps at w2, agents, carrier reps, small trucking companies, and small to medium size brokerage owners. The c level executives at big brokerages dont really enagage with me. A lot of them probably don’t like me, or my content. It makes sense I don’t like non competes. I don’t like 3 percent comp structures. I don’t like policies limiting social media. I don’t like 2 star Glassdoors and mass layoffs. Also, I probably post some things occasionally that corporate people wouldn’t approve of. There is a reason a lot of these big companies don’t have their reps posting on here. And I’m fine with that. I don’t see a world where I would want to work for a top 100 brokerage . Only a few of them I approve of. I like their sales reps though . I’m friends with a lot of them. I’d rather have an audience that knows I keep it real, and won’t get professional fluff from me. What do you guys think? Who didn't see this coming? I'm all about innovation, but unleashing these unsafe vehicles on an overly-trusting public and city government further erodes trust in our industry. Or was it greed? Were city officials and shareholders incentivized to dismiss the risks in exchange for potential profits? The same can be said of Tesla's Autopilot. Ignore the name of the feature, it's not really autopilot (said sarcastically). What are we doing as an industry to self-govern in a responsible manner? We can do better.

According to Brush Pass Research, LinkedIn shows a 7.1% increase in headcount at the largest 1,000 freight brokerages over the past year, even with news of a spike in layoffs. Research indicates that between 63% and 90% of customers are willing to leave companies due to bad experiences! Why do I bring this up today? Because I am trying to buy a car. I have been to three dealerships. Each of these dealerships have managed to lose my business after interacting with the salesperson. If your company is inexplicably losing market share, then your customers may be leaving you in favor of anybody else who might understand them better. The good news is that your customers don't WANT to quit you; breaking up is hard work! But how you make your customers feel WILL drive them to take up the burden of finding a new vendor. BREAKING: General Motors’ Cruise has internally announced a significant workforce reduction, confirming to CNBC that 900 employees, constituting 24% of its staff, will be laid off. The layoffs predominantly impact commercial operations and associated corporate functions, marking the latest upheaval for the robotaxi startup. This decision comes a day after Cruise terminated nine "key leaders" due to their handling of an October 2 incident. In that event, a pedestrian was dragged 20 feet by a Cruise self-driving car after being hit by another vehicle. Prior to these cuts, the company employed 3,800 individuals. These reductions follow a recent round of contractor layoffs at Cruise. Those affected by the layoffs will continue to receive paychecks until Feb. 12, along with an additional eight weeks of pay and severance based on their duration of employment. Goochland, VA - Locally based used car giant CarMax has shed hundreds of employees nationwide in recent weeks in two rounds of layoffs. The Fortune 500 firm, headquartered in Goochland’s West Creek area, confirmed this week that the first round of cuts occurred last month, when approximately 400 drivers in its logistics division were let go. The second, smaller round occurred this week, affecting 15 corporate positions. “I can confirm that CarMax made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce across two business areas recently. We do not anticipate any further broad reductions in our workforce,” the company said in an emailed statement. It said the 400 eliminated logistics drivers were located in various locales across the country. Those positions were eliminated following a review of its logistics network. “As a result of these strategic changes, we identified that we do not require as many drivers to support the updated staffing model,” the company said. The second, more recent round of layoffs was communicated to employees earlier this week. The company said those 15 eliminated positions were in product delivery roles and were the result of changes at what it calls its Home Office, which includes its headquarters at 12800 Tuckahoe Creek Parkway in West Creek and its newer Midtown Technology and Innovation Center at 2200 W. Broad St. in Richmond. Of the 415 affected employees, the company said 14 are based in the Richmond area. The company has 2,300 employees locally and nearly 30,000 in total. CarMax said it is offering support to the affected employees such as severance, career counseling and the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company. It said nearly 20 percent of the impacted logistics employees are transitioning to open roles elsewhere within the company and approximately half of this week’s impacted employees have applied for new roles to stay onboard. “And we are hopeful that most will,” it said. Known for its used car superstores, of which it has 245, CarMax was founded in Richmond in the early 90s as a spinoff of Circuit City. It is now one of region’s largest employers and one of the area’s biggest companies by revenue. It ranked 141 on this year’s Fortune 500 list thanks to $31 billion in revenue last year. The company reported net earnings of $152 million in its most recent fiscal quarter that ended May 31, down from $228 million in the same period of 2023. It posted $7.1 billion in net sales and revenue for the quarter, down from $7.6 billion in the same period last year. It sold 358,000 vehicles during those three months. Its stock, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol KMX, closed Wednesday at $82.49 per share, up 8 percent this year. [NEWS] GM layoffs will rock nearly 1,700 workers: Starting in Nov., 686 full-time workers will be temporarily laid off, while 250 will be permanently let go from GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. By Jan. 2025, another 759 workers will face temporary layoffs. Why the cuts? GM is sunsetting the Chevy Malibu and investing $390M to retool the plant for Chevy Bolt EV production. But GM’s EV shift comes at a cost— Workers and the local community will bear the brunt of these changes as GM undergoes this transition. And for consumers? The Malibu’s end means one less affordable sedan, a blow for budget-conscious buyers already facing rising interest rates and insurance premiums. Yet, GM claims the Bolt EV will be the most affordable EV by 2025— But with no pricing details yet, affordability remains a big question mark. Hiring is a buying transaction. My wife and I bought a new car. We’ve been looking for months and looked at a good number of cars. During that time, we changed our minds about exactly what we wanted in this new car based on what we saw in the market. It was a big purchase so we wanted to make sure we found the right one that would fit most of our needs over the next 5-8 years because we like to keep our cars that long. And this is how most buying transactions happen in business too, including hiring. We are all big investments. So while it may be frustrating waiting for someone to “buy” your skills, this is why it takes time. Unless of course the company doesn’t have a car and can’t get their work done without a car - then you can expect them to buy faster. But that’s not usually the case. And in this market, it’s even more rare.
