I had an amazing opportunity to participate in a next level develop program at my company. Which provides a platform to learn from the wisdom and experience of our Executive Leaders at CarMax. I acquired many takeaways and moments of clarity, but one in particular was a paradigm shift for me. My group was asked what's the most important job of a leader. As you may suspect I was eager to share my perspective on leadership and get feedback on my thoughts. However, I learned in the moment that I couldn't have more incorrect 😳. My most profound takeaway of the day was the importance of self-care (Mental Health). Chris Sloan shared how it's nearly impossible to offer your best to the people around you if you're not at your best. Having a keen awareness of your mental health status and being intentional regarding steps you take to stay mentally healthy is your most important job 🤯. In nearly 20 years of Management, I'd never heard leadership explained in such a way. Hopefully, this message resonates with you the way it did with me and pushes you to take the time necessary to reset, be aware of your mental health status, and be at your best! I can assure you the people that mean the most to you personally and professionally will appreciate it and benefit greatly. Chris Sloan

Happy #Pride - I've loved seeing coworkers repping equality in calls and in person this week. I see your hat. Your background. Your rainbow fingernails and shoelaces. I see CarMax offering pride backgrounds in Teams. And I don't take them for granted for a second. I often consider myself invisible in the LGBTQ+ community; I'm a cis woman married to a man. But make no mistake, when I'm in a room - the board room, the bathroom, the meeting room - I'm still a human being who identifies as bi. I am grateful for this month where it feels extra safe to be who I am, when I see my friends even more comfortable in their own lives. Here's to pride in June, and pride every day.
