It was a great pleasure to open another Ducati racing season in Madonna di Campiglio, a location that perfectly expresses the values of 'Made in Italy' of which we are proud ambassadors. The path that has led us to be the best in the world in racing is undoubtedly made up of the hard daily work of these years, but also of our ability to work as a team and have fun while putting our maximum effort into what we do. One of the strong elements of our brand is the ability to create a system and we demonstrate this by jointly presenting the official teams for the 2024 racing season, the Ducati Lenovo Team, the Aruba.it – Racing Ducati Team, and unveiling of the new Desmo450 MX, the motorcycle that opens a new historical chapter for us in the motocross world. Seeing all the bikes together was a great emotion for me because, although different from each other, they are part of a single project. This belonging is underlined by the basic colour of the liveries, Ducati Red, the same for all, and also by a completely new graphic sign that recalls the curve present in the Ducati logo, inspired by the most exciting part of riding a motorbike: the bend. At the same time, these bikes are also an expression of the path that Ducati has taken in recent years, investing in its future. The entry into motocross is in fact the demonstration of the company's solidity and determination to continue investing in expanding the range offered to our enthusiasts. In these two days we had the opportunity to give ourselves the right energy for a year that promises to be full of challenges. It is almost time to present the 2024 Ducati official racing teams, but I still want to dedicate a well-deserved appreciation moment to the 2023 Panigale World Championship Replica! These amazing objects celebrate the racing successes of last season and will be produced in a limited and numbered series. The more I look at them, the more I'm reminded of the emotions I've felt race after race following each competition, from home or in the box. Each is an authentic collector’s item dedicated to our most passionate clients. They are full of exclusive details: model name, progressive number and rider number are laser-engraved on the aluminium steering plate of the bikes, while on the saddle is sewed the personal logo of each champion. But the most important feature is that each one of them will be different, like real art pieces, because of the one-to-one handmade signature done by our champions. The quantities in which the bikes will be produced are different for each of them because they celebrate the racing numbers of the riders to whom they are dedicated. This means that Pecco and Álvaro will face the 'signature marathon' on 263 and 219 units respectively, Jorge on 189, Nicolò on 111 and Bez on 72. All technical solutions and components of the motorcycles have been chosen to recreate the excitement of racing on the track, aiming at transforming each Replica into the closest thing ever to the original racing bikes that a passionate Ducatista could collect. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking The Ducati Panigale V4 is a sport bike with a 1,103 cc (67.3 cu in) desmodromic 90° V4 engine introduced by Ducati in 2018 as the successor to the V-twin engined 1299. A smaller engine displacement version complies with the Superbike category competition regulations which state "Over 750 cc up to 1000 cc" for three and four cylinder 4-stroke engines. The initial development of the Panigale V4 started with the 2015 MotoGP racing engine. Ducati said the Panigale V4 was designed to combine racing features, while also being an entertaining and rideable motorcycle with a durable engine. This created the challenge of designing an engine that could keep the MotoGP engine's counter-rotating crankshaft, and large bore diameter, but have the 24,000 km (15,000 mi) service intervals expected on consumer motorcycles. Originally, Ducati was initially keeping the MotoGP bike's chassis, but later changed to a completely new front frame they said has less weight and more stability.

MotoGP™ star Johann Zarco shares his insights into Ducati Motor Holding’s success and the close competition in the world of premier class racing. Zarco highlights Ducati's impressive capability: “What Ducati has been incredible at is to make a bike that all riders can win on,” he elaborates on their remarkable approach to creating a competitive machine. The key, according to Zarco, is Ducati's focus on the rider: “They give the opportunity to each rider to win races and to fight for podiums, by finding for everyone a good feeling on the bike.” This philosophy underscores Ducati's commitment to rider-centric development. Zarco admires this strategy, saying, “This is where they have been fantastic.” It's not just about the bike's power or technology but how it connects with each rider. But Zarco also sees potential in the competition: “But when you analyse everything, the [performance] difference is not so big and that's what gives a lot of hopes for the others.” He suggests that small changes could elevate other teams to Ducati’s level. Ducati Supermono https://lnkd.in/eCCq7GgT Ducati lay claim to some of motorcycling’s most desirable and exclusive models. Yet one sits above all else in terms of scarcity, mystique, and value: the 1993 Supermono. Small, stunning and saturated with exotic materials, the 549cc production racer was designed to showcase Ducati’s technical prowess in single-cylinder racing, and show how far modern materials and methods could evolve the most basic of four-stroke configurations. An instant winner, the Supermono took victory in its first year of competition, clinching the 1993 European Supermono championship in the hands of Italian Mauro Lucchiari. In 1995 it won at the Isle of Man TT, Kiwi Robert Holden giving Ducati their eighth and, to date, last TT victory. It was to be more than just a race bike, too, as a road-going version was also promised. Ducati’s Chief Engineer Massimo Bordi got the concept underway in 1990, creating a 487cc single from the 90-degree V-twin of the firm’s World Superbike-winning 888, complete with desmo valve train and electronic fuel injection. Bordi’s prototype kept both cylinders but used only the vertical bore to provide power; the horizontal was run without a head so that its piston acted as a balancer to cancel out the vibes that typically plagued singles. Although it proved as smooth as a V-twin, the extra drag of the dummy piston resulted in power losses which forced the engineer back to the drawing board. His solution was to amputate the dummy piston and simply make use of a double conrod set-up. Known as ‘doppia bielletta’, it worked by adding a lever joined at right angles to the small end of the balance conrod, with the other end of the lever fixed to the crankcase. It not only kept the things smooth, it also negated the previous design’s frictional losses, while resulting in a more compact engine. The added upshot for the rider was that, as it was essentially a ‘crossplane’ single, it provided glorious traction. Further refinement saw the bore increase to 100mm, whilst stroke was increased by a further 2mm to 70mm to create 549cc and a peak power of 75bhp at 10,500rpm. Development of the Supermono was then placed in the hands of a young project lead named Claudio Domenicali. Now the firm’s CEO, in the early 90s Domenicali was fresh out of university and in his first major role with Ducati (...).

Aero war intensifying? Our Ducati MotoGP launch takeaways https://lnkd.in/e_uCerYR With Ducati Corse’s notoriously secretive boss Gigi Dall’Igna unlikely to give away too many engineering secrets ahead of the start of 2024 MotoGP pre-season testing, and no changes to the rider line-up or main sponsors, Ducati’s launch event at Italian ski resort Madonna di Campiglio wasn’t expected to produce many earth-shattering revelations. But there were still things to be gleaned after reigning world champion Pecco Bagnaia and his team-mate Enea Bastianini pulled the covers off a machine that at least has changed a little bit visually from last year and - surprise, surprise - features even more red paint than before. Perhaps the most exciting news of the whole launch came in almost a throwaway line from Dall’Igna. He casually mentioned that the bike that actually hits the track at Sepang next month will feature “fairings extremely different to those we’ve used before”. And that means that there’s likely a serious escalation in MotoGP’s aerodynamics war in the pipeline. It’s an area that was basically invented by Dall’Igna’s team and which has since been consistently driven forward by Ducati not just through wings on the front of the bike but with new innovations like rear seat unit aero devices and ground effect fairings. But we’ve not seen any huge aero leap forward from Ducati in a few years, with the other European manufacturers Aprilia and KTM quick to catch up. That could change for 2024, if the veteran engineer’s words are to be taken at face value. The upgrade certainly wasn’t on show at the launch, with the bike on show a 2023 model (at least aerodynamically) in what was clearly a deliberate decision to ensure rivals have as little time as possible to study and copy whatever Ducati has in mind.

Ducati can't have #1 on a satellite MotoGP bike next year https://lnkd.in/dsisAz3d With three rounds of the 2023 MotoGP world championship remaining, there’s a very real possibility that Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin will steal the title away from factory counterpart Pecco Bagnaia and run the number one plate on his satellite machine next year - an awkward situation that the Italian factory simply cannot afford to allow to happen. Right now, with three rounds and 111 points remaining on the table this year, Martin trails Bagnaia by only 13 points - a gap that his impressive momentum of late (especially in sprint races) has a very real possibility of turning around come the season finale at Valencia in only three weeks’ time. Should that happen, though, it will leave Ducati in a whole world of pain come next season, as it will need to manage not only the commercial realities of having a satellite world champion but also the egos of its riders - an issue which, realistically, might force its hands in making a big change for next season whether Martin wins or loses. There’s a lot that comes with winning a title beyond just lifting the trophy at the final round and being forced to do more media appearances in the week that follows. Walk into any Ducati dealership anywhere in the world right now, for example, and you’re guaranteed to find a photograph or poster of current world champion Bagnaia, as Ducati both uses its title success to sell bikes and to maximise the return on investment from its sponsors. It doesn’t just become far more difficult to do that should the champion not be fully under the control of factory press officers and marketers - it’s also a bad look for major multinational sponsors like oil giant Shell or technology company Lenovo if the world champion isn’t on the bike they pay millions to sponsor but instead is hanging out in the pit box next door.
