Did you know that by offering an alternative source of protein, according to Environment Reports, the global plant-based retail market is worth $5 billion in the US. With a growing global population meaning more mouths to feed, it's important to explore different ways to cater to everyone. Plant-based protein has the benefit of cutting down on demand for animal agriculture, making more efficient use of land. The plate of the future could contain many more sustainable proteins, such as algae, insects and precision-fermented dairy goods made from cow DNA. Standards can have an important role to play in the proliferation of alternative proteins, helping ensure the quality and consistency of products.
