Happy Black History Month Two years ago, we produced a series called “Amplify Our Voices,” a docu-series showcasing black start-ups and black entrepreneurs, sharing their journey of entrepreneurship. We wanted to share the many perspectives from various industries from our participants and the community of founders. It's a beautiful piece highlighting the various ups and downs of entrepreneurship and what better time to resurface it than now? As a Black start-up and independent film company, we, have had our journey and obstacles of scaling as a business. We understand the importance of building a media and marketing presence and the struggles for businesses of color to thrive without this in place. We hope to continue to share these stories to spread the amazing work that these companies do in their communities and inspire current and future entrepreneurs. We also encourage you to celebrate Black History Month by sharing these stories and continually supporting Black-owned businesses. If you haven’t watched it, check out the pilot episode; it’s truly one of our favorite projects we've produced. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gM95FGDK

▶ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐲 '𝐍𝐨' 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 ◀ 📢 In today's #ThoughtBits, let's reflect on this insightful quote from actor, Matthew McConaughey. 🗣️ "I was making B's in 5 things. I want to make A's in 3 things." - Matthew McConaughey 🎬 At a pivotal point in his career, the Oscar-winning actor made a conscious decision. He shut down his film production company and record label to focus on what truly mattered: 1️⃣ His acting career 2️⃣ His family 3️⃣ His foundation 🚀 The result? "I did start making much better grades, so to speak, in those 3 things." 🌟 Key Takeaways: ✅ 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲: It's not about doing more, it's about doing better. ✅ 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Sometimes, progress means letting go of good to make room for great. ✅ 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Fewer commitments can lead to improved performances in core areas. 💡 Remember, in a world that celebrates "doing it all," the real power move might just be doing less, but doing it exceptionally well. ❓ So I ask: Are you making As in the areas that matter most to you, or are you chasing too many Bs? #Productivity ------ 💡 #ThoughtBits - Sharing thought-provoking ideas to spark conversations and inspire positive change. 👥 Follow Carl Cheng on LinkedIn for more thought-provoking ideas and all things I find interesting in business, tech, music & entertainment.

Gloria Oppong, a Black Canadian entrepreneur, took home $30,000 for her startup Cleanster at a Black Innovation Summit. Cleanster is a platform that connects property managers with reliable and highly-rated cleaners. The idea stemmed from Oppong's personal experience of needing help after having a baby. Partnering with Derrick Agyiri, who already had a freelance service platform, they recognized a gap in the cleaning industry – a demand for quality cleaners and the difficulty for cleaners to find well-paying jobs. They shifted their focus to address this imbalance. This story offers valuable inspiration for Black entrepreneurs. Oppong's success highlights the potential of finding solutions to problems faced within your own community. By identifying a gap and leveraging existing resources, Black entrepreneurs can create businesses that address specific needs while fostering economic empowerment within their communities.

The recent demonstrations by Gen Z have brought a powerful message: our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they're the leaders of today, and they're not taking "wait your turn" for an answer! These young voices are calling for greater transparency in sharing of the national cake and social justice—issues that resonate deeply within our communities. Let's face it, we could all use a bit of their energy and passion (not to mention their mastery of social media)! By engaging with this dynamic generation, we can help bridge the gap between their aspirations and the realities they face. Legal education, mentorship, and advocacy are crucial in guiding and empowering these young leaders. I stand with Gen Z as a legal advocate and as an active participant in the journey towards a more just and equitable society. After all, the future looks bright—and maybe a little more tech-savvy too!

😉 So I did a thing… It feels like a lifetime ago, but two months ago, I was flown out to New York to appear on the TV show "Wake Up with Marci," a talk show with heart ❤️ 📺 This show is broadcast to 2.8 million viewers across New York, Long Island, and New Jersey 👀 Once the show streamed live, it was shared across numerous channels, including YouTube. (Link below) I was on a cruise when it aired, so this is my first catch-up 🙃 The interview reflects on my journey from challenging beginnings to empowering others. Marci called it a testament to resilience and transformation 💥 We explored breaking the cycles of adversity and guiding individuals toward authentic success and self-mastery. Life is a constant journey, and I continually push myself out of my comfort zone to grow and reflect—just like traveling to New York on my own 😬 My passion and work as a coach and mentor are rooted in the belief that our traumas do not define us. Instead, healing from trauma propels us forward because there is nothing more powerful than a shared lived experience. No textbook can offer the care, compassion, and empathy that comes from shared experiences, which is the core of my work with young people. A human approach in leadership is key 🔑 Caring for others, listening to their thoughts and ideas, and sharing the reasons behind your decisions—makes all the difference. People will follow you because they want to, not because they have to. This was evident in my recent mentoring programme at an alternative provision school. #hugesuccess Offering students the space to expand their zone of genius and navigate paths they might not have considered is incredibly rewarding. There is so much joy in watching others succeed and standing side by side on their journey. Watch the interview here: https://lnkd.in/eRVSaCCs #tv #interview #newyork #whatanexperience #breakingthecycle #childhoodtrauma #adversity #growth #schools #alternativeprovision #mentor #mentoringprogramme I am More Academy Marci Hopkins 💭 Do you have a cohort of students that would benefit from a mentoring programme? I’d love to share with you our results 🤩
