In honour of International Women's Day this week and the theme of “Invest in women: Accelerate progress”, we are recognising the work of some of our Abt colleagues. Shreya V Basu, Senior Strategic Projects Coordinator, Abt Britain, says: “When it comes to ensuring that women's voices and needs are prioritised in project planning and execution, we don’t listen to respond, we listen to understand. For a successful project that imbibes equal opportunity, each person in the team has to be given the same importance and space to learn. There isn’t a one-size fits all approach. One of my biggest personal challenges to implementing gender-focused initiatives is being taken seriously, because I am a young woman (an intersection of age and gender). I have tried to overcome this by being a people’s person. Understanding the people I am working with and communicating in the way that they receive information best has been a great learning. Feminists before us have worked very hard to get us to where we are now, with a lot more options and opportunities. However, that does not mean that we’ve achieved the goal of equality and equity. To further accelerate progress for investing in women, it’s important to create spaces for women to learn and grow. What women can do as leaders is unmatched and should be seen as such. Creating a community of organisations and a culture of inclusiveness is extremely important in fostering an environment where the organisation and the employees grow together. Invest in women for impact, not just output.” #IWD2024 #InternationalWomensDay #InvestInWomen

Founder @ Stoles by Bella, eco-friendly fashion and Italian Artistry, Green/Tech Entrepreneur and Investor
Hello from Women in Business Post n. 25. Peru’ is famous for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, and my recent trip, combined with my curiosity, offered a unique glimpse into the thriving entrepreneurial spirit of #Peruvianwomen. Known worldwide for its natural beauty, diverse cuisine, and warm-hearted people, Peru is also witnessing a remarkable shift in #gender dynamics within its business landscape. Venturing beyond the tourist hotspots, I was captivated by the stories of resilience and determination exhibited by #Peruvianwomen entrepreneurs. Despite their challenges, it's inspiring to see them carving out their paths and contributing significantly to their communities and industries. Celebrating Success Stories: One cannot help but marvel at the achievements of remarkable women like @PiaLeón, whose culinary genius has earned her accolades as one of the world's best #chefs. Her journey underscores Peru's rich #gastronomicheritage and serves as a powerful testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Empowering Women Across Industries: From tech startups to sustainable fashion ventures, women in Peru are making their mark across diverse sectors. Driving Global Change: With women now leading 17% of businesses worldwide, Peru stands out as a beacon of progress in Latin America. 36% of entrepreneurs are female. This upward trend reflects entrepreneurship's changing landscape and underscores women's pivotal role in driving global economic development. These achievements are cause for celebration, but it's crucial to acknowledge the persistent barriers that hinder women's entrepreneurial journey. Limited access to funding, lack of mentorship opportunities, and the burden of childcare responsibilities continue to pose significant challenges. As advocates for #gender equality, it's incumbent upon us to amplify the voices of women entrepreneurs and provide them with the support and resources they need. By fostering an environment that values diversity and inclusion, we can unlock the full potential of women-led businesses and drive positive change on a global scale. In closing, let us draw inspiration from the resilience and tenacity of Peruvian women entrepreneurs as we continue to champion diversity and empowerment in the business realm. Let's build a future where every woman can unleash her entrepreneurial spirit and shape a brighter tomorrow for future generations. Here's to the unstoppable force of women in business! https://lnkd.in/dGDghK_Q https://lnkd.in/dtw9gKR9 https://lnkd.in/dm6ewys5 #WomenInBusinesspost #PeruvianEntrepreneurs #southamericanwomen #changemakers #womensupportingwomen #Femaleentrepreneurs #latam

Today is International Women's Day, or "Women's fighting Day" in Danish 🇩🇰 , and our fight and journey continues. Danish men income was 12.2% higher than women's in 2022, according to the World Economic Forum, it will take a 257 years at the current pace to close the global financial gender gap! 🌍 This week the 🇨🇦 Canadian Chamber of Commerce published “Barely Breaking Ground: The Slow Stride of Progress for Women in Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship” showing that in 2023 women made 88 cents to the dollar relative to men in the same occupations. And the share of women directors in Canada only increased by 3 percentage points between 2016 and 2020, resulting in a dismal showing of 21% of all positions. "A strategy without inclusivity is a bridge to nowhere; it's time to put intention into action. The "Barely Breaking Ground" report underscores the critical need for inclusive leadership and diversity in decision-making roles. The slow pace of progress is a call to action for us all. At Competent Boards, we're deeply committed to deepening boardroom conversations globally on these issues. Our approach isn't about ticking boxes; it's about real, impactful dialogues with global peers that foster sustainable business growth. We believe in creating safe spaces where leaders can openly discuss and learn from each other, driving genuine change that not only meets but anticipates the needs of future society." Said Helle Bank Jørgensen, CEO and Founder, Competent Boards and DCCC Director. Our fight continues, but today serves as a reminder of the incredible contributions women have made throughout history, across all facets of society. A day to celebrate Women’s achievements and take acton for a gender equal world. Happy #IWD #internationalwomensday2024 #InspireInclusion

She put up with a lot of rubbish and I’m inspired by her resilience. (To be non-political, Julie Bishop did as well.) And Eleanor Roosevelt. She wrote: ‘You must do the things you think you cannot do’. Whenever I’ve been worried about something I need to do, I go back to that advice." Slide 4: "What is a great piece of advice you’ve been given?" "Act with power. And you will have power." Slide 5: "What are you wanting to see organisations do to address gender equity in Australia?" Slide 6: Graphic of gender symbols. "Make flexible work the norm and encourage fathers to take time off to care for children. The issue though is a broader one and goes to the roles men and women are expected to play in our society." Slide 7: “Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. Women’s economic empowerment is central to a gender equal world. When women are given equal opportunities to earn, learn and lead – entire communities thrive”. Logos of TCP and UN Women Australia.]
