Our relationship with lager began during the late 1890s, when Percy Allsopp was appointed Chairman of Samuel Allsopp & Sons, in an attempt to turn-around the fortunes of the company. During this time, Percy travelled the globe to find the best ingredients for his visionary new beer and pioneered lager brewing in the UK. 40 years later, at the 1936 consensus, the brewery was 50% of the capacity of the entire UK lager brewing sector, brewing Pilsner and Bavarian-style beers. Yet Allsopp’s lager wasn’t particularly successful at the time. We were half a century too early to the party, which wasn’t helped by the fact that Allsopp’s Pilsner was launched before refrigeration became widely available. Fast-forward to 2024 and lager is everywhere in the UK. We’ve still got unfinished business with our Allsopp’s Pilsner, but it’s now our fastest-growing beer, which is quite a turn-around! Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company’s Brewing Company Agrees 10-Year Partnership with Stonegate Group 🍺 Formed in 2010, the UK’s largest pub company, The Stonegate Group, operates 4,500 pubs and bars across the UK, including familiar names such as Slug and Lettuce Leeds, Craft Union Pub Company and Be At One Cocktail Bars. From Spring 2024, CMBC will manage all keg and cask deliveries to Stonegate’s managed estate, introducing 29 new vehicles and creating around 100 new jobs in the distribution and warehousing sectors 🚛 The deal will increase the presence of premium beer brands, including Brooklyn Brewery and Birrificio Angelo Poretti, the two groups are working together to ensure a smooth transition 🤝 Paul Thomas Davies, CEO of CMBC, says “This is a momentous agreement for both CMBC and Stonegate Group, securing a long-term partnership to deliver a range of our fantastic beer brands into thousands of Stonegate Group’s excellent pubs”. #logistics #beer #partnerships #carlsberg #fmcg

Tilray has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire four craft breweries from Molson Coors. The acquisition includes Hop Valley Brewing Company, Terrapin Beer Co., Revolver Brewing, and Atwater Brewery. Tilray’s portfolio will expand across key beer markets adding 30% new beer buying accounts. The Tilray Beverages portfolio boasts a range of leading craft beer, spirits and non-alcohol beverages including SweetWater Brewing Company, Montauk Brewing Company, Alpine Beer Company, Green Flash Brewing Company, Shock Top, Breckenridge Brewery, Breckenridge Distillery, Blue Point Brewing Company, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Redhook Brewing Company, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Square Mile Cider Company, HiBall Energy, and Happy Flower CBD sparkling cocktails. This strategic acquisition is expected to position Tilray for continued growth and expansion in the beverage industry. Tilray's beer business is expected to grow to 15 million cases annually, cementing Tilray Beverages as the #1 craft brewer in the Pacific Northwest, #1 in Georgia and anchors Tilray’s craft brands in two key beer states, Texas and Michigan.

✅ Here's a perfect example of how diversity at the top of a company can create a competitive edge ✅ The Black-owned Brewery, Brockton Beer Company is part of the minuscule 2% of breweries that are Black-owned in Massachusetts. Although one of the co-founders confided that "it's a challenge for people of color to break into this industry", they've managed to carve out a niche for themselves that's unlike the other 98% of their competitors. They infuse their beers with "flavors that nod to their cultural heritage, such as mango and calamansi." Since we’re in May, the three-day weekend known for the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500 🏁, the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Race, and Memorial Day 🇺🇸 Weekend — the unofficial kickoff to Summer near month’s end — you’ll start seeing TONS of Ads and promos around the 10th of May. I can’t wait🍻! If you missed this post yesterday, I thought I’d share it again as we head into the weekend … Since Craft Beer is only 13.3% of the U.S. beer market according to the Brewers Association, with Import’s share at 23.2%, other Domestic beer is 63.6% share — and the math reported in the article below really doesn’t matter. But let’s not quibble. The floodgates are about to open. There’s going to be a boatload of beer sold and gulped between the last weekend of May and Labor Day weekend and the best Craft Beer can hope for is about 10% share. Yet these are percentages — volumes will actually grow substantially. And that’s a great thing. Ballantine was founded in 1840 in Newark, New Jersey, by Peter Ballantine who emigrated from Scotland. Ballantine rented an old brewing site which had dated back to 1805. It was originally incorporated as the Patterson & Ballantine Brewing Company. Around 1850, Ballantine bought out his partner and purchased land near the Passaic River to brew his Scottish ale. His three sons joined the business and in 1857 the company was renamed, accordingly, as P. Ballantine and Sons. By 1879, it had become sixth-largest brewery in the U.S., twice as large as Anheuser-Busch. In the mid-1960s the company went into decline. It was losing market share to lighter lagers with less alcohol content. (Hmmm … sounds modern day familiar 🤔) Despite advertising efforts to revive the company, the owners agreed to sell the brand, the company, and all their assets … to the Falstaff Brewing Corporation. The name would be used for the next 115 years, until the company closed its brewery in 1972. The knives are out for Madrí Excepcional 🍺 🗡 Created for the UK market in late 2020 the Molson Coors Beverage Company-developed brand has absolutely crushed it to become one of the UK's top-selling world beers in barely three years. The success of the brand (and the controversy surrounding its origins) has trigged Spanish brewer Hijos de Rivera, S.A.U. (owner of Estrella Galicia, a genuine and great galician beer) to respond with this piece in the Telegraph following a thinly-veiled attack ad launched late last year. The 'One Direction' of the UK beer world, Madrí which is brewed in the UK, is Spanish in absolutely nothing but name and was fabricated by MolsonCoors to capture a slice of the world beer market which it has duly done. Well done them. And while we like to think 'authenticity' is something consumers care about, the success of the brand reinforces the rules of the game in brewing, namely that a) brand matters, and b) sales and distribution muscle matters even more. So while Estrella Galicia and other authentic World Lagers can complain with the perceived 'dishonesty' of the brand, until they're able to make material progress on both of those fronts the situation is unlikely to change... https://lnkd.in/ejgCM3qm

What is Innovation Alley? I am asked this a lot, and to be honest, sometimes it is frustrating to try and answer. I've learned when you set out to build something new that doesn't necessarily fit well within predefined boundaries or boxes, there can be a lot lost in translation. But that is exactly what innovation in practice sometimes feels like... attempting to address a challenge, create value, all while allowing creativity, diverse perspectives, and no small amount of ambiguity to exist along the way. Blue and Gold Brewing is a very cool beer/coffee business and novel student experience but it is also higher education innovation and Innovation Alley in action. It is multidisciplinary, applied, engaging multiple colleges and external partners, providing an education that builds upon but goes beyond the traditional academic enterprise. Imagine what we can do if we continue to provide all of our students learning environments characterized by applied problem solving, discovery-driven learning, and experimentation, but where true value creation still really matters. Where we allow students to begin to move from student to practitioner all while still in college. This vision, this program and others we are building, is Innovation Alley. Congratulations Lisa Gandolfi, Owen Krappman, Sarah Richardson, D'Angelo Alvarado and Stella Quinlan, I can't wait to see this go live on National Marquette Day. 🍻 150 years ago this fall, a German immigrant named Adolph Coors brewed his first beer in Golden with Rocky Mountain spring water. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: The birth of Coors in 1873 launched a global beer empire, transformed the brewing industry and created a Colorado mystique that defines the state to this day. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆: The brewery in the foothills west of Denver — the second-biggest in the world and largest in the U.S., producing 10 million barrels a year — is facing an existential crisis as beer sales decline and a new generation of drinkers moves toward alternative and healthier beverages. • In 2022, Molson Coors posted its steepest decline in U.S. volume in the modern era, down 5% or 2.2 million barrels, according to economists at the Boulder-based Brewers Association.
