Shortly before its launch, the new Panamera top model has made its mark on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With Porsche test driver Lars Kern behind the wheel, a pre-series variant of the high-performance touring saloon completed the legendary course 5.64 seconds faster than the comparable model of the previous generation. Last Friday, Porsche test driver Lars Kern set a new best time of 7:24.17 minutes for luxury class cars with combustion engines and hybrids, in the future top model of the Panamera series. Lars Kern had already set class records on the Nordschleife in 2016 and 2020 in the Panamera, most recently in the Panamera Turbo S (7:29.81 minutes). “On the Nordschleife, the transverse dynamic capabilities of a car are particularly important,” Kern comments. “The new Panamera has made significant gains in this area. In technically demanding corner sequences in particular, such as between the ‘Hohe Acht’ and ‘Brünnchen’ sections of the track section, it responds with noticeably greater agility.” To protect the driver, the Panamera piloted by Lars Kern was equipped with a racing seat and the mandatory safety cage, but otherwise corresponded to the series version. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 with dimensions 275/35 ZR 21 at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 at the rear was specially developed for the Panamera. For optimised performance, the optional Carbon Aerokit eliminates lift on the front axle. In combination with the Gurney flap on the adaptive 4-way rear spoiler, the end result is that downforce is generated. This boosts the aerodynamic balance. #Porsche #panamera #Car #Sportscar #Luxury

A 90s legend - the Jaguar XJ220! The XJ220 is an interesting car. Built in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing, the mission was to create a modernized road-going version of the classic Jaguar Le Mans cars of the 60s. It was first introduced with a V12 at its core. But before production, new legislations & emissions standards pushed the team to make big changes (among other reasons), most notably swapping out the V12 for a turbocharged V6. They took note of the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 when considering the change. Two cars powered by lightweight, compact engines. The change, however, didn't stop the XJ220 from performing at the top of the game for a short period of time. Making 542hp, it not only hit 217.1mph to set the production car top speed record at the time, but it also set a production car record on the Nurburgring as well. Shortlived records, but impressive nonetheless. Only 275 examples were made, which was far less than Jaguar had initially planned. Created for the North American Market, this British front-engine sports car was made by Jaguar Cars Ltd from 1961 to 1974. Prior to this, Jaguar’s D-Type racing car had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three years in a row. The E-type was based on the D-type with competitive pricing and high performance. At 150 MPH and sub-7-second acceleration, the advanced technology and novel design of the E-Type became a sensation. In 2004, Sports Car International named the E-Type number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.
