As a parent with a child in youth sports, a lot can come up. But what is one piece of advice you would give to someone who’s navigating this world for the first time? Here’s one response: “Get to know parents on your children’s teams. It helps to have someone else to talk to about what’s going on and what to expect. It can also lead to carpooling, which is a lifesaver. There are endless advantages to knowing other parents.”

It's summertime! Kids should be outside, having fun, and playing with friends. But with the pressure to win taking over youth sports, many kids are quitting before they even reach high school. Matt Young's TEDx Talk, "Give Sport Back To The Kids", argues that adults have taken the fun out of youth sports. Young, a sport development expert, shares 3 insights on how we can all be part of the solution: 🤸🏾♂️ Let kids be kids: Adults should dial back their expectations. Kids should be allowed to make mistakes and learn from them, fostering a love for the game, not just winning. 🛑 If you see something, say something: Speak up if you see abusive coaching or programs that prioritize winning over fun. 🏗 Restructure the industry: Youth sports need to prioritize kids' needs. Training programs for volunteers and ensuring a positive experience for all are crucial.
