The user experiences of two applications made me think… Incident one: I haven’t used Uber for rides for a while. When I used it a few days ago, I was confused about the tips. I wasn’t sure whether I successfully tipped the driver, and so I ended up double tipping: the driver got almost 50% of the fare for tips. What the Uber did was a single tap will trigger the tipping… Incident two: I haven’t cleaned up my Hotmail account for a while. Access it via Safari and it took me to click three times in order to delete one single email… What do you think? How about two? Not one, not three? A man hails a taxi, jumping in quite flustered. As the door slams shut, he barks, "Let's go, I'm in a hurry!" Immediately, the driver starts the engine and begins to drive aimlessly. As the cityscape blurs past, the man taps his watch impatiently. "How long will this take?" he demands. Puzzled, the driver glances in the rearview mirror. "And what exactly is 'this'?" he inquires. Annoyed, the man snaps, "You’ve done this a million times, you should know how long it takes!" Calm and collected, the driver responds, "Sir, I can take you anywhere you need, but I need to know where you're going first; otherwise, it’s just a ride, not a journey." Perhaps Uber has it right—they insist on a destination before they even show up. Obviously a ludicrous scenario, yet so much software development seems to follow just such a pattern 🥴 #ThingsIKnowToBeTrue #requirements #design

3 reasons why I use the Waze app while driving - 1. To keep track of any cops or red-light cameras. 🚨 I remember learning my lesson when I was so tired one evening while driving. When I came by a red light to turn right, I didn't make a full stop. Two months later, I was surprised when a ticket showed up on my mail. The ticket fee showed up with a few hundred bucks along with doing traffic school. From then on, I remembered to stay alert driving by first turning the Waze app. 2. To watch out for any hazards on the road. ☣️ This is another reason why I stay alert. Sometimes, highways and roads have potholes. For sure, I'm the person who doesn't ever want to go over them so to take care of my tires. 3. To keep track of roads with history of crashes. 🚗 🚗 Some parts of highways around the Bay Area have major history of car crashes. Waze would let me know that as well. So when that happens, I make sure to stay alert and be aware of all cars surrounding me - especially if they merge, speed up too much, or even enter into the highway.
